In addition to a good story, acting, effects, etc., the writer obviously had a sense of humor. Once, during the opening intros, just as the security man was saying "Anyone can show up" . . . three Elvis impersonators walked by in the background.
Another time, when Garibaldi was working as a private investigator, he had a client looking for his missing dog and cat, who were going "to take over the universe." Well, this client was actually Scott Adams, the creater of Dilbert. If you follow the strip, you caught the reference to Dogbert and Catbert.
