Another little windfall came my way,,,

Hello Hal & tet4,,,

Hello Hal,,,

You own a pair of model 17's and a pair of those ultra sexy Hi Standards?,,,
You know Man Laws state I absolutely must hate you just a wee bit.

I own 7 pairs of guns but they are centerfire/rimfire pairs:

S&W Model 18 & 15 in .22 and .38,,,
Colt Mk-III Troopers in .22 and .357,,,
CZ-75B in 9mm and CZ-75B Kadet in .22.

Some day I'll find a deal on a model 17,,,
With any luck it will be sitting alongside a Model 14.

Hello again tet4,,,

Just trying to assist your decision along my friend.

Cost wise and because they are just so danged sexy looking,,,
I am leaning towards the pair of 5.5" Ruger 22/45's I linked to in my original post.

But your suggestion of the stainless steel models is giving me pause,,,
This model or the slab-side model (which I find sexier) are very chic.

I've not had any good fortune at all with Taurus revolvers,,,
But I have seen good performance and reliability from the Charter Arms Pathfinder.

You have me considering several options,,,
All of which will put me way over the $600.00 windfall,,,
Now I don't feel at all bad about sparking the idea of twin Bersa pistols.

SP-101

Those new SP-101 from Ruger with the 4inch barrel and FO front site look sweet! summitgunbroker.com had them for $525 but looks like he's out of stock. I know you couldnt get 2 for that price but man those are nice!!!

Hello vostracker,,,

Oh man,,,
I would love to own a pair of those,,,
But every one I have followed the auction for,,,
Went way over what I can afford to pay for a pair of those.

Fess up now,,,
You know you posted those auctions to hurt my soul,,,
You're still trying to get back at me for buying that Model 34 out from under you. ;)

I did consider (and am still thinking on) a pair of these Rossi handguns,,,
It's just that I have no earthly desire for the 45/410 barrel,,,
They would look nice in a wooden case though,,,
And they are in my windfall budget range.

Rossi

Now, now. I hold no grudges!!!! I've been looking for a Stevens tip up myself for awhile. Every time I seem to find one in my price range, something comes up and I have to spend my toy money on something else unimportant, like hot water heater, dryer, etc.

That Rossi is nice looking, but like you, I wish it came in another caliber. Like 22 or .38/.357. You might look for a couple of Ruger standard mdl pistol with bull barrel's . They came out with some nice anniversary ones just awhile back. It might be neat to find something that will fit into a quality made cigar box!!

Darn you Aarond, you have a knack for stimulating money-sucking fantasies and imagined needs. How cool would it be to have a pair like you're talking about in a nice padded wooden box? Make sure there's a compartment in there for ammo and two sets of earplugs and you're set! I wonder how I could convince my wife I need another Ruger MKIII Hunter...

FWIW, I like all the guns you linked except the S&W... just looks unbalanced to me. I wonder if there are some single-shot 22lr pistols that are as elegant as some of the old duelling pistols... that would be awesome!

Hrmmm... brain is tickled...more to research, I think!

EDIT: How about a pair of Thompson/Center Contenders? You could get iron-sighted barrels, and even store a second barrel for each gun in the box! Leave the 22lr barrel on, but get a barrel in 380, 9mm, 45, 357, or some quirky cartridge that strikes your fancy. I believe I've seen you post most often about 380s and 9mms, so that's what I'd lean towards, but you can get them chambered in anything. I wonder if you could get a blackpowder pistol barrel? I bet you could get custom wood grips made to mimic the appearance of 18th Century pistols...Ah, so much potential... :-)

Hello Daekar,,,

I wonder how I could convince my wife I need another Ruger MKIII Hunter...

Tell her that yours is lonely and needs a good companion,,,
One as sweet and lovable as your wife is to you,,,
Lay it on thick as with a bricklayers trowel,,,
Say it would bring you closer together.

Who knows my friend,,,
It could work. :D

I wonder if there are some single-shot 22lr pistols that are as elegant as some of the old duelling pistols...

Uberti made a reproduction of a Remington Rolling Block in .22 LR,,,
Discontinued for many years but man were they (as you say) elegant.

I've searched and as far as I can find,,,
The only other .22 LR single-shot made now,,,
Is that Rossi 2-barrel set I linked to in a previous post.

If you know of another,,,
Please let me know about it.

Aarond

Agh, you beat me to it, I didn't edit fast enough! Like I said above, what about Contenders?

I'll see if I can find anything else... Although I have a feeling anything I find won't be cheap!

What? No Browning Buckmarks?

Noted that several of the pistols had what I'd call that "futuristic look."
The Browning Buckmark Silhouette Target Pistol may fit the good looks billing (but not the <$300.00 part).

A brace in a case would be impressive.

Since you're already voicing your opinion about the Ruger's qualities, I'd like to add my own yes! The closest thing I have to a pair is 2 Rugers, though the first is a lowly RST-6. Loved it so much I went all out on my next one and bought a KMK-512 MK II. The second is no doubt a superior gun, but they are both among my favorites.

I'd opt for the Rugers.

I was thinking of something classy. Let's say a nice pair of Colt New Frontiers in 22 LR in a nice walnut presentation style box. Imagine one man holding the box saying "Gentlemen choose your weapon". You do, then go to the firing line and on command shoot the paper targets down range. Just a thought.:D

Daekar: Darn you Aarond, you have a knack for stimulating money-sucking fantasies and imagined needs.

Yup, Aaron's reviews forced me to buy both a Bersa Thunder 22 and a Taurus Ply22. He's bad news.
p.s. Aaron, you should ask for a commision from the manufacturer every time you do a review.:)

group

Aarond,

I think what you REALLY need is a "Theme" group!!!! With a part of my collection, I can go either Audy Murphy "To Hell and Back" or Kevin Costner "Untouchables".

You'll just need a Thompson, Garand, 97 Winchester shotgun, 1911, Colt hammerless, Luger, switchblade and maybe some brass knuckles to start with !! This could be the start of a new beginning of collecting for ya!!!LOL

I'm working on my western theme right now among other stuff. Thats why I need a sweet leather rig one of these days.

I was thinking of something classy. Let's say a nice pair of Colt
:(:(
Please Mr. Python - don't dredge up old bad memoires..
It's ironic you should post something in this thread using that screen name.

I was once offered a deal on two 4" royal blue Pythons that I foolishly turned down.

The dealer had gotten tired of looking at them sitting on the shelf & he knew of my "habit" of bundling multiple guns to get a better price.

I could have had that pair for $1200.00. Not ea. For both.

Aarond,
Go ahead and hate away! It's all in good fun eh? :D
Ya know @ one time a dozen or so years back, I sat down and went through all the different models NAA offered and added them up.
I forget what the grand total was, but, it was within the realm of possibility for the Average Joe Six Pack to afford to buy one of each model and each different configuration. IIRC, it was around $3k give or take.

I just checked to going price these days on the NAA Mini & a brace of those is in your budget range.

I'm still undecided as to what pistols,,,

I can get a pair of Ruger 22/45 with 5.5" barrels for $518.00,,,
I know they will be great performers,,,
But they just ain't pretty. :(

If I'm going to purchase a matched set of pistols,,,
By Jove, I want them to be elegant as well,,,
I'll probably only do this one time.

Tease away Mr. Pond.

I am leaning very strongly towards a pair of the,,,
Ruger 22/45 Mk III in stainless steel with the 5.5" slab-sided barrel.

The new ones have the cocobolo wood grips,,,
They are simply lovely to look at,,,
And I know they will shoot well.

A perfect combination of functionality and aesthetics

A little above my projected $600.00 budget,,,
But what the heck,,,
Viva la Visa! :D

Hello 357 Python:

I'm always on the lookout for another one of these Frontier Scout revolvers,,,
20-lucille.JPG

This is Lucille and was one of my my Mother's handguns,,,
I wouldn't mind having another one of these.

Hello serf 'rett:

Browning does make a very nice line of .22 LR target pistols,,,
I've fired a few and they are definitely very high quality,,,
But for some reason I've never warmed up to them.

Of the Big Four of .22 LR semi-auto target pistols,,,
Beretta, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, & Browning,,,
I like the Beretta NEOS and Ruger 22/45.

Hello spanishjames:

Aaron's reviews forced me to buy both a Bersa Thunder 22 and a Taurus Ply22. He's bad news.

Really?
So, how do you like the 22-PLY?
Isn't it an absolute hoot to burn a mag through?

Bersa does probably owe me a small gratuity,,,
Two friends of mine have purchased Thunder 22 pistols,,,
They fired mine and immediately ordered one for their very own,,,
And then there's the one I purchased for a 21st Birthday gift for a friend of mine.

It's simply a pistol I have a lot of faith in,,,
And it doesn't cost a fortune to own or shoot.

Hello Vostracker:

Hush! :p

Aarond

Made my decision and placed the order at Buds,,,

I checked with the Evil Pawn Shop on the prices of the guns I was considering,,,
He was able to match the price from Buds but his distributors didn't have the one I liked best.

Dangit!
I wanted to shop locally,,,
Oh well, at least he'll get the transfer fees.

I ordered a pair of the Stainless Steel Ruger 22/45s,,,
With the 5.5" Slab-Side barrels and the Cocobolo grip panels
.

Now I need to make one of those double shoulder holster rigs,,,
Ala The Shadow.

Aarond

Good choice, Aarond, as long as you don't mind the mag safety those will be great. And now you have TWO guns to put Volquartzen (sp?) parts in. :D

I have the cocobolo grips on my MKIII, and I agree, they look wonderful with the stainless steel.

You know if you manage to find a double-shoulder rig, we need pics, right?

Hello Daekar,,,

I'll make the rig myself,,,
I'm a fairly decent leatherworker.

I've always wanted to do Halloween as The Shadow,,,
Now I have the perfect guns to warrant the time and effort. :D

I may have to grow old,,,
But I adamantly refuse to grow up! ;)

Aarond

So, how do you like the 22-PLY?

I bought it for my wife.;) She has a hard time racking the slide on most guns, so the tip-up barrel is ideal. It's a fun little gun, and functions well. I removed the magazine safety, and that's where it got interesting because the grip is in one piece, and has to be pried off carefully so it doesn't break. And remember, you can't have too many 22's.:)
