Ammo went up again

Tax Plot?

I often hear people say ammo is being taxed more by the gun grabbers.Well,as long as the tax on ammo is the same as the tax on hammers, etc in my state I guess there's no validity to that concern.
I do believe the late Ted Kennedy wanted to tax ammo out of existence, but he's dead, and I haven't seen that idea surface again at the Federal level.
I know there are plenty of gun grabbers who'd like to do it,but they haven't got the ability for now."Now"being the operative word.

I didn't notice the increase until a couple of weeks ago and I bought a 100pack of 40S&W and was charged about $34 when I had been paying about $31 including taxes.

Once again a comment about the government.

The point is copper is cheap right now. Ammo should be cheap. Don't say anything about the Fed. Good lord people just have so much hate they laugh in the face of reason.

Ammo is high for one simple reason...

We buy it.

A company sets a price point for a product. What the actual manufacturing cost is has little to do with it. If we stopped buying, prices would come down.

Huh????

That's right, if the acme ammo company sold major ammo makers quality of ammo for 30% less and everyone jumped on the band wagon then prices would come down. It appears like the only competition the r&w&f&etc. have is low budget foriegn and surplus catridges.

oops, almost forgot. If you don't like being at the mercy of factory ammo start reloading, the sooner the better. I bought lee loaders for a .44 magnolium and a 30/30 when I was 18...wow 43 years ago.

Seems prices never came down to the level before the election. I have some empty box's of reloads from when I lived in MA in the early 80's and then I was paying $9-11 for 50 rounds and had to turn in brass to get that price. Best way to beat the rising prices is to reload. Like 44AMP stated prices were very stable for a long period of time. It doesn't help any now but we had it pretty good for a long time ammo price wise.

If I had a place to start reloading I would. At the rate the dollar is sliding I won't be able to afford anything by the end of the year.
If you have a place to sleep, you have have a place to reload.

Unless where you live has rules against keeping ammo, a simple loading outfit can be stored (ready to set up and to use in a few minutes), in two shoeboxes. My entire loading bench's primary gear fits in three medium sized plastic toolboxes. Press, dies, scale, couple of powder measures, calipers, bullet puller, other small tools, a 2x6 with bolts and wingnuts to mount the press safety glasses and a dropcloth. I don't count the brass tumbler because it really isn't a necessity in my mind.

I need to get up with somebody that reloads and kind of apprentice for a little while. I would love to be able to afford running 300 rounds a month.

Prices on about ALL ammo was supposed to go up June 1st.. If you've been getting it for the 'same' price, it's probably because it's prior June 1 ammo and they haven't gotten to the new stuff yet.

I know I bought some to have on hand prior to June 1.

It looks harder than it is, and there are plenty of books to get started. That getting started the sooner the better is great advice even if I say so myself. I used a lee loader and a hammer to start with, and there are a lot better cheap options now. inexpensive sounds better, don't it? When I had a rockchucker and a leadpot and mold I woud cast and load 500rds after work in a week and burn em up on the weekends. I don't recommend it, but it's doable.
