Ammo Prices SKYROCKET!?!?!?!

A lot of companies got caught with their britches down when fuel prices rose so high last time, they barely made a profit.

I think they are anticipating fuel costs to continue to rise and are adjusting their prices now.

I checked our local walmart and prices have gone up a little bit, but not dramatically. Large boxes (100 count and 250 count) of ammo do not seem to be in stock any longer when I am there.

My local Walmart prices...

have DOUBLED since December! For my birthday at the end of December my wife bought me 500 rds of Federal 9mm for $57 with tax out the door. Now the same ammo, in 250 rd box costs $56.95 before taxes!

I hate it when they keep the price the same but reduce the quantity so people think that prices are stable. This not only applies to ammo but to other products. I used to pay $6 for a 16 oz. can of roast beef. Yesterday the same roast beef can cost me $6.95 but is only 12 oz.!

In december I got several boxes of S&B 9mm for about $9.99 per box of 50. Now it is up to $11.99, I have seen it at $12.99 at some stores. For what it is worth JHP ammo seems to be going up more slowly thank FMJ.

Gun sales DO seem to be going up, I am starting to see some items that are normally in stock at local gun stores become hard to find. I was in an LGS the other day that typically has a case full of Beretta's, maybe 20 or 30 of them. They had 4.

Some other food for thought, the local Cabelas now has a sign limiting all ammo purchases to 10 boxes. That sign replaced a sign that left it to the managers "discretion".

All things being equal I think all of us expected 2008 pt2 during this election cycle and ammo prices going up 10-20% is not that big of a deal. I would be more worried about ammo availability than prices.

Yup--it's gonna be '08 all over again. If you don't get components in the next couple months, it could be a while. On the bright side, if you have enough already and can wait it out till this time next year you'll probably find GREAT deals from the morons that stockpiled 50K of this and 100 lbs of that "just in case" and then find themselves in a serious pinch when they realize they created the shortage by buying up everything in anticipation of the shortage--kinda like the snake eating its own tail.

1 - any penny from 1982 or before is now worth @ 2.5 cents, because of the value of copper and other metals it contains, but mostly the copper.

2 - The US is no longer minting pennies, due to the cost of metals they contain.

3 - Elections - Bill Clinton did more to arm the citizens of the US than any other president or firearms manufacturer. Every election year, folks figure guns, mags, or ammo, will be banned or taxed. Have you looked for a use handgun at your local gunshop lately??

4 - Used handguns are harder to come by right now and even new ones are Out of Stock - check out Buds online.

5 - 22lr ammo has gone up $3/brick pretty much across the board.

Ammo - buy it cheap and stack it deep.
