With gas at $4/gallon here, ALL prices have risen sharply.

You might try going in with a group at your local club and really buying in bulk - think pallets full

Wal Mart and Fleet Farm are by far the cheapest local source of ammo for me. My other options being Gander (crazy expensive), Cabela's (not too horrid if you catch a sale) and Dicks (small selection, prices a little high).
Box of 50 WWB in .45ACP is $34 at Gander... Box of 100 is $36 at Wally World. Two bucks more for double the rounds!

Just returned from Walmart ... just a couple blocks away and I felt like a saturday afternoon trek into the wild to observe the natives in their natural habitat ... picked up 5x 100 round bulk Federal 40 S&W 180g FMJ for $29 and change plus tax ...

I can still buy 100 round box of Federal 40S&W 180 FMJ at our local Walmart for $25.97 plus tax. I have not noticed any increases in price, yet. :)

Hey stainless1911, You may want to compare your local price for primers and powder with the price from Powder Valley. You will pay a HAZMAT fee with shipping cost, but in bulk you wil most likely be paying half the retail price. The lower price will quickly make up for shipping and hazard duty fee.

I just mention this in case it helps. :)

reloading components have been going up too

Yeap thats true, reloader might have to pay 5 cents around instead of 4 cents.

Still beats buying factory that goes from 22 cents to 28 cents (example)

But then I cast bullets.

Walmart and the other Farm and Fleet are my usual sources.

I checked yesterday. Walmart has basically been unchanged for a few months. The farm store was up significantly. A 50 round box of .45 ACP 230gr FMJ, basic blasting ammo, was $25. Fifty cents a round. Boy am I glad I handload, and can cast my own bullets. I don't think I could afford to shoot otherwise.

I've already restricted my calibers to 22 lr,38 special and 9mm so it can't get much cheaper shooting then that.

And the range I go to sells reloads for a great price too.

I mean,if you can't afford to shoot it,why own it.

"Yeah, the one in Williston?"

Yessir! No one's in the sporting goods section. I always have to wait 20 minutes for someone to open that glass up.

"I can't reload. I'll forget something critical and destroy my gun if I shot my own reloads."

That's hilarious.

I'm assuming you mean $29 per box...

I have seen prices increase since January, but availablility is still pretty good overall.

Not where I live. People have cleared the shelves in the places I usually buy.

As someone else said, it's the '08 run-up yet again. Luckily I have a bunch already.
