Ammo On-Line

Hi All,

New to the forum and new to the Firing Line Forums. So apologies up front if this is in the wrong section.

I am looking to purchase ammo and accessories on line and was wondering what site has the best balance of price and shipping costs.

i was looking at Cheaperthandirt, and while they seem to have pretty good prices up front, their shipping costs are ridiculous. others I have looked at don't seem to have large selections, but cheaper shipping, etc.

So looking for some recommendations....price isn't my only motivator....
thanks for the help
Ron

Shipping costs are set by the carrier, not the retailer. Throw in Hazmat fees and buying ammo on-line gets expensive. They'll negate any cost savings. Buy ammo locally or, better, reload.

My favorite is Grafs. They charge you a small handling charge (something like $4+) and then they pay the shipping. If you make up a big enough order, that small handling charge becomes a low percentage of the total bill.

Last time I bought ammo online there was no associated hazmat fee. Perhaps there is in Canada?

Usually, it depends on what type of ammo you're looking for. G&R Tactical has most of my ammo at great prices but sometimes I'll have to go to the others too.

  • G&R Tactical - has most of my favorite ammo
  • Midwest Hunters Outlet
  • Cheaper Than Dirt
  • Ammunition to Go

I used to frequent "Ammunition to go" but now I would avoid them as their prices have steadily gone up until now they are more expensive on average than is "Cheaper then Dirt!" Seriously, I check them daily, and he's selling his premium stock at about a $100.00 up on the competition per case....I buy a ton of ammo, most of it is coming from SGammo, if you're looking for bulk, as I buy my ammo, you will thank me for setting you on their path...

Gets kind of wonky with some sites, but all in all it's decent. Ammoman generally offers good deals even with shipping (it's included in the order, so the listed price is what you pay) but they're iffy on what they've got any given moment in time.

Are you taking into account that Ammotogo prices include shipping? Also, they don't deal a lot in the cheaper "budget ammo".

Last time I bought ammo on line, I used AIM Surplus. Pretty good stuff. Ammo to go was my primary source before that but I do remember paying shipping. Wide selection and prices were competitive but that was three months ago. They had also ran out of Fiocci .38 super they were selling for around 16-17 bucks.:(

No. Shipping is a separate charge. I just looked at some shotshells....$57.95 for a flat and UPS was $25.10.
So I'd end up paying over eight dollars a box for ammo that sells for less than six.
Not.

I have used them all over the years.
Google the ammo you want to check prices.

I always shop ammoman ... just got 1,000 rds of S&B 9mm FMJ for $209, NO shipping charges, no tax ... and the UPS guy drops it right on my porch and even throws in a bisquit for my beagle ... the price per 50 is close to what Cabela's charges on sale, but I have to drive 40 miles to get to it and then pay sales tax of around 8% ... easy to deal with, I got the shipment in about four days ...

Thanks very much for the suggestions! I always try and support my LGS, but sometimes convenience does win out when looking for bulk.

checked out SGAmmo, thanks for the suggestion, they seem to have very good prices and the shipping isn't ridiculous.

Appreciate all the knowledge!
