Priceless

I work armed security and three people I work with have never fired the sidearm's they're carrying. Our company did finally make it policy now that when we re-qualify we have to do it with the sidearms we're carrying.

Ha! I saw that add earlier. Wasn't that on here? I looked at a few different classifieds today so I might have it mixed up.

Either way, that's some funny business. I had to do a double take.

My girlfriend's dad is like that.

He can tell you exactly how many rounds have been fired through each of his guns.

None of them is more than 50. Most are under 10.

I bought a Romanian sar-1 from him with 3,000 rounds of ammo and a dozen mags that he bought the day after 9/11/01. He had loaded all the mags and never fired the gun. I doubt he even chambered a round. I bought the whole mess for $500.

There was a locally infamous loon who worked part time at the larger local gun store. He was famous for telling customers he fired each of his pistols 18 times to make sure they worked and never fired them again to make sure they stayed good. He had apparently (in his own diseased mind) reached some sort of zen master level of proficiency and no longer benefited from range time. I have seen him shoot and he could have used the practice for sure. This nutter went into a depression when the world did not disolve into chaos and cannibalism for Y2K. Haven't seen him for a few years. I asume he is in his mother's basement contacting the greys for instructions.

I work with a lady like that. She's been carrying a .38 special for years upon years. Carries just about everywhere she goes. I happened to ask her once how often she shoots her gun. She tells me she's never fired it before at all. I was left speechless.

Never fired once but carried for six months?
Wow thats all I have to say. My main carry gun has at least 1,500 rounds through it. I just picked up a brand new Kimber Pro Carry II yesterday and it wont get into the carry rotation until it has at least around 500 rounds through it with no major malfunctions. On top of putting many FMJ rounds through my guns to test function I also fire around 1 or 2 boxes of the JHP's I plan on carrying just to make sure they feed reliably in my gun, and that I am proficient with them.

on top of practicing with your carry weapon to check reliability, if you are going to make the life choice of carrying a weapon you should be well practiced and confident with it.

Yep, really only a small percentage of gun people are seriously into their own safety. Sure, they will pay lip service to the concept and maybe get a CCW and some even carry quite a bit, but that is the sum total of their dedication.

Unfired, because he couldn't fund ANY AMMO!!!!! I also know many who have never fired a weapon owned for defense. I think some of these are people living in denial.
