Am I crazy for sleeping with a gun nearby?

I keep my P245 under my pillow, and the wife has a P228 under hers. I keep my Mossy 590 under the bed and the wife's 500 is under her side. In addition, the AR-15 is propped against the wall on my side, and she has a .38 snubby in the drawer of her nightstand. This has been our practice for quite some time (since we're both only in our mid-20s, it's not quite so ingrained as some others here) and will continue to be so long as it is practicable.

IMHO, you are not crazy, rather, you are prepared. Anyone who would call prudence crazy are themselves nuts.

Ivanhoe ... EXCELLENT point about the rounds cooking off. I just wandered by the SAAMI sight and noticed that they went to great lengths to re-assure firefighters that ammo in a fire isn't worth worrying about ... chambered WOULD be different. I figure that racking the slide only take a second anyway and requires a small amount of consciousness as well. I slept with an UN-loaded 92F cocked with the safety off for a few weeks before I put a clip in place ... just wanted to convince myself that I wouldn't handle it in my dreams. Now its the USP40C with the Surefire in the lockbox. Key to the lockbox is on the same keyring as my car keys ... keeps me from hurrying out the door without locking it up again in the morning.

No, some of us keep belt-belt machine guns nearby.

USP45F Under the pillow, Full mag and one in the pipe. 3 spare mags next to the bed. Hammer down, safety off.

HK USC next to the bed. 2 spare mags next to it.

Rem. 870 under the bed, filled to the brim with 00.

I sleep incredibly light, i.e. car pulling in the driveway, any door opening, people walking around, wakes me up.

..only if your significant other starts to get jealous! :D

Glock slide holster attached to the back of my nightstand. It holds a Glock 22, 15 rounds w/nothing in the chamber.

I sleep soundly. My wife has no problem with it. If I had children, I'd use some type of quick-access gun safe.

colt officers in a holster mounted to the headboad. only i dont keep a round in the chamber due to the fact that i have some pretty out there dreams and have been known to throw a wild punch or two in my sleep. i figure if im awake enough to chamber a round im awake enough to shoot. and theres absolutely no worry about someone sneeking up on me before i get it chambered due to the fact that my 100 lb. lab sleeps on the floor next to the bed. my only problem would be having to decide which gun i want to use.

Jedi.... 3 handguns, 2 shotguns and an AR-15 in your bedroom at the ready?? What the hell are you expecting??!!
