Alright Moderators -- that's it!

This has got to be one of the best, most open boards, I've ever been in. And I'm persona non-grata on about half the net. The only time I've seen the big purple thumb of the moderator come down is when it was off topic, or sliding into mudthrowing. More importantly, I've never seen a thread closed because the moderator's don't agree with what someone has said or argued. I got kicked off a board for beating someone in an argument, next thing you know I was banned, everyone of my posts with my name was gone, and I was never there. The mention of my name would get you a warning. This has got to be the most 1st amendment friendly board I've ever seen.

P.S. Never argue with a Randian Objectivist, you'll win but they'll never notice.
And never tell a Chinese person that they need to worry more about Tibet then Nanking.

OK, Hueco, let's do it. ;)
TFL has repeatedly stated that it is not the site for debate of religion, sexual preference or abortion....there's plenty of bandwidth on the net to voice your opinions on those subjects. That in mind:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI> http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/forums/showthread.php?threadid=36504 - As Dennis clearly stated, this was a religious discussion. About 30 Members voiced their opinion. Then it was closed at 99KB....1 KB short of our 100KB limit.
<LI>http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/forums/showthread.php?threadid=36281 - Shortly into this religious discussion, Coinneach noticed that it had already become a Christian=Nazi debate. No thanks.
<LI> http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/forums/showthread.php?threadid=36185 - The first line of this "Come to Jesus" thread includes the question <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>My Friend: I am asking you the most important question of life. Your joy or your sorrow for all eternity depends upon your answer. The question is: Are you saved?[/quote] It goes on from there. Dennis closed it, after agreeing with the author and gently suggesting he post it on a more appropriate site.
<LI> http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/forums/showthread.php?threadid=35854 - I have no idea who closed this thread on the Elian topic. While it began with, what appears to be National Enquirer quality intel, it may have turned out to be interesting. One point for your side....we promise to refund your TFL Dues for May. :)
<LI> http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/forums/showthread.php?threadid=35712 - A thread on whether whites should leave South Africa. This one, of necessity dealt with what Black vs Whites have brought to the world. George closed it. I might have left it open, but I'm not George and I stand by him. I'm not aware that he received your email in protest....or anyone elses. Of course, we could have just one person making these calls....the result would be better consistency; and a two week life expectancy for the site.
<LI> http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/forums/showthread.php?threadid=35385 - This topic was closed by Coinneach. It had to do with a supposed quote by Sarah Brady, that has been debunked as fictitious by The Second Amendment Foundation. Should we have paid the bandwidth to let it continue? Or would you prefer we save our resources for debate of non fiction?
</UL>

As to why only some nonRKBA threads are closed. Three reasions:
1) Because we want our Members to be able to have a little off topic fun and, thus, we turn a blind eye to some of the off topic threads.
2) Because we're not omnipresent and some threads get by us.
3) Because certain nonRKBA threads are used as a soapbox to further personal agenda's in the areas of race, women's rights, religion and morality. They're not fun. I don't like them.

So, where's the problem. We're happy to work with you on this...even publicly. I'm, just not certain I understand your gripe.

Rich:
I agree those boards should be closed due to obvious reasons. However, I maybe wrong, I think Hueco is trying to say that the moderator or admin closing the topic should state MORE clearly the reason why. Not just "This isn't a religion board." Instead, something along the line of "We don't need a Christians = nazis thread." etc etc.

Most people due understand why the thread was closed. To many others, it's not quite as clear.

ArmySon-
In the vast majority of cases, the Moderator does explain why the thread is closed. Hueco's examples provide only one instance where this is not the case.

But remember this. The Moderators of this Board have lives to lead, jobs to get to and families to feed. They're not complaining about the volunteer work on TFL, mind you. But can we berate them if, in haste, they occasionally close or move a topic without giving a clear reason.

Go to AR15, my buddy Eric's GlockTalk, old friend Spark's KnifeForums.com. What you'll find is that they actually delete all messages that are more than a few months old. TFL maintains them from inception. Is anyone over there complaining of "censorship" for these actions?

This thread has exceeded the 100k limit. I'm closing it in hopes that someone will start a Part 2, as I don't want it to appear that I've had my say and silenced all response.
