All the ammo in Wal Mart, Academy, etc. is gone.

All of this will come to an end. Hoarding of ammo and the insane rush to buy anything that shoots are bubbles, just like the housing and stock market bubbles. At some point, people will have accumulated all of the guns and ammo that they can afford, or they will wake up and realize that the bad 'ol government isn't looking under their beds for their guns, or they'll come to the conclusion that, given the tenor of the times, they'd best be spending their money on something else. At that point, prices will level off and then, almost certainly drop. That day may come sooner than we think. On another forum I observed that I've noticed that the asking prices on Gunbroker have been going through the roof but that, with the exception of no-reserve sales, very little has been selling. That's a sure sign of sellers' expectations exceeding demand and is exactly what happened in the housing market before it crashed. So, sit tight, relax, and keep your senses of humor. This too, shall pass.

Perhaps it will come to an end, perhaps not. While the economy is bad, noone will risk their political capital to push gun control or ammo taxes or whatever other methods are available to end run the 2nd amendment. If the economy improves and the ruling party can claim credit they will push their agenda harder. In that case, the hoarders may be laughing at the rest of us.

Had to take an emergency trip to Florida recently, and ran into a few Walmart's with the same 'empty shelf syndrome', but.. was surprised to see that some Florida Walmart's also sell liquor & kegs of beer.! News to me..

Some of you people need to chill out. Geez, it's obviously a joke about the current buttheads out here hoarding all the ammo because either they're crazy, or they can, and screwing everyone else in the process who just wants to have some fun plinking.

Ditto, I am getting real sick of this ammo rush/shortage. I went to Meijer last week and saw no less that 20 boxes of 100 count 9mm ammo at about 2:00am. I came back at 7:00am with money and it was gone.

Anybody ever heard of reloading presses?

I bought mine years ago and now have dies for all the rifle calibers I shoot and a few of the pistol calibers.

When I got back from Kuwait in December, I immediately started buying large cans of the powder I would need, primers, bullets and other accessories.

GL with finding primers & bullets. I can find .45 bullet any where locally. There 15 gun stores in this town there all sold out of large primers, almost no 45 bullets.

I think that this ammo panic is going to end in a few months to a year when all the people who are hording finally get their fill and realize there is only so much space in the wife's shoe closet...:p

On a real note we live in a world of limited resources and most of us have other expenses besides ammunition to consider i.e. (food, shelter, medical bills, car/house payment) Once the sky stops falling the fear will die down and things will go back to normal. I know some will disagree but this has happened with other commodities and inflated prices always fall. Until then I plan on buying the usual amount and not worrying too much about it.

Ok, get this.
I went to my walmart the other night, and there was almost no ammo.
Whatever.

HOWEVER, since my girl was working tonight (nurse), I decided to drive up to the gander mtn just to look around at guns and see what their stock looked like (it's only about a 25min ride). Their prices absolutely suck, so I didn't intend on buying anything, just looking.
There stock wasn't terribly bad, though. Low on some things, but not terrible. Primers were badly picked over...no SR (grrrr) and no LR.

Then I figured I'd stop by the "other" walmart down the street, just to see.
It was like a different freakin' world at this one. I'm standing there looking at their ammo, and they have boxes and boxes of every caliber. Probably 50 100rnd boxes of WWB 9mm for $19.87. They had tons of everything. The had hollow point 9mm for $17. They had bulk packs of 380, and 223, and well...everything! It was like heaven!
So I'm standing there in awe, and the wal mart lady walks by me and we start chatting. Then I notice she's carrying cases of CCI primers! What? So I follow her to the next isle, and she's stocking reloading supplies. This wally world has RCBS presses and die sets ($29 a set), and shot and wads and powder and MEC shot loaders and press parts.
I have never seen this at a walmart before. Is this normal?
I even picked up 100rnds of Hornady 200gr XTPs for my .45.
Best walmart EVER! :D

Hell yeah, Otto, come on up! You can stay at my house as long as you're not a serial killer or something (or a chick...my girl hates that). We'll take a trip to my range! :D

Whats going to happen is the hunting/ammo taxes will be raised though the roof..................Their is talk about this in MT right now. their going to figure hell, we have millions to buy guns, stock pile ammo ext, we can raise taxes on this stuff, along with smokes and make some serious $$$$$$$$$.......... Everyone complaining about a 100 round box of 9mm for $22.00 hold on to your REAR end cause 6 months from now,it will be $45.00............... A carton of smokes will soon be around $70.00, this summer gas will be $6.75 a gal. Personally im thinking its time for me to put a little $$ away for hunting season, and buy some other things, that will also be usfull in the future, along with some extra reloading stuff.... just my $.02.....

Wal-mart amo, what do you want?

with a mind to what ammo wal-mart would be able to make a profit on, what would you want your store to stock?

The thing that really peeves me is my store does not stock the Federal champion bulk packs. The champion Federal is so much better than the regular for only a few dollars more. I really wish they carried it, especially since 22lr is all I can find anymore. After this thread runs out I will see if I can get it to a wal-mart representative. Last time I contacted them with a complaint I had the Store manager call me back and apologize.

I know this isn't an ammo answer, but I wish my local Wally World stocked employees who know what ammo is. There are some guys who actually know what they're talking about, but the last time I asked for some .45 ACP I got handed a box of .45 Long Colt.

The reality is that Wal-Mart does not put a lot of time into shelving things that hunters and gun enthusiasts want. For example, I have not been able to find any JHP rounds for any caliber there in 3 years. And yes their employees are generally as ignorant as the day is long when it comes to guns/ammo.

I wish mine would carry .38spl, .357 mag, 30-30, and buckshot of any guage.
My local wally world...
I only buy clays and target loads there. (in terms of shooting of course;))
