Aerosmith/NYPD gun permit scandal!

I had to take a two-day break for some unexpected crap, and the moment I get online I find three people had EMailed this to me.

Sigh.

I mean...honestly. And I *like* their stuff, too.

"He's a family man with five lovely kids, and the suggestion that he did anything improper is absolutely preposterous," said another friend, Bo Dietl, a former NYPD detective.

Bo Dietl is a regular on the "Imus in the Morning" show. Don Imus has a long history of drug and alcohol abuse, yet he also has a NYC LTC. The hypocrite has said many times on his show that he's pro-gun control.

This comes as no surprise to me. When Krantz (sp?) ran the license bureau, it was common knowledge that he had an autographed picture of Robert DeNiro on his desk, a gift for expediting his carry license.

This is the second or third time in recent months that the NYPD License Bureau has been caught with its pants down. I am going to put together the last two or three articles and send them to each State Assemblyman and State Senator and ask them to explain to me why they are allowing this bill to remain stuck in legislative gridlock.

Nothing new.

When Rusty Staub of the Mets had his restaurant in Queens there was a full blown scandal about his CCW. This was how many years ago? If you think it`s just the C.O. of the Licensing Section, I got new for you. He takes his marching orders right from the top.

Let's see... corruption in a discretionary system? Imagine that. Beauracrats should have as little discretion as possible when it comes to their ability to curtail people's fundamental rights.

Why does any of this surprise anyone. It goes with the old saying
money talks and BS walks. If I were to apply for a permit they
would laugh at me.

I've seen them at 2 SHOT shows and one or two knife shows - Steve Tyler & Joe Perry at least.

DrJones is right about the knives too... ;)

I just wish that they'd use their position in the industry to promote the 2nd Amendment.

There are lawyers in NYC that specialize in get you a carry permit if you have a few thousand dollars to spend. There are also civic organizations that can help cut the red tape for a "contribution" to some election fund. Is this a suprise to anyone? Unfortunately the" working joes" that actually needs one can't get it. I'm sure most celebrities can afford bodyguards however.

Corruption at NYPD? No, really?

This thread is OLD but, since it poopped in one of my searches for something else and it was in the news again recently...

The NYPD is probably the one of the least corrupt departments around. Let's be real you have 40,000 NYPD officers in charrge of law enforcement in the world's best known city, there are going to be SOME problems.

Do celebs ever get special treatment with permits and such...maybe, and it sucks if they do. I never worked in such a capacity, but let's say you gave out the permits, what do you do if (not saying they do or did) the Mayors Office (or any political bigwig) asked you to "fast track" a license??? I know, we'd all say "no, I have strict procedures to follow" :( Maybe if it wer easier ot get a permit there would be less "special treatment" going on.

The other post about bribing a desk officer to get a license is WAY OFF BASE. The local desk officer has ZERO to do with getting a license. IF he REALLY paid a desk officer and subsequently got a license, the 2 are coincidental. It means he could have gotten it anyway and lost a few $$$ for nothing. His story sounds like B.S. to me. Just another idiot trying to sound important by bragging about some non-existent exploits of his.

As far as the Inspector involved in the old story, I have no idea if he did anything. I have met him several times he was a Housing guy, but don't know him well enough to guarantee he didn't/couldn't have done anything. Seemed like a decent guy at the time.

I look at it this way: At least they GOT a permit. Imagine how many 'stars' are walking around with no permit, no training, and a gun.

In Washington State, they've been walking around with permits, no training, and guns for nigh unto 70 years, and the world hasn't come to an end.

Member TimW ( http://www.practicaltactical.net ) and I found ourselves in Phoenix standing next to Steven and Joe at a table at the 2002 Small Arms Review building at the Crossroads of the West gun show. They were looking at the double-Ruger_10/22 hand-cranked "gatlin guns." They were no lookie-lous. They slapped down plastic and had a pair shipped to them.

Yeah...and it was a tough decision...they were all "Should I get the stainless or the blued....ok...send two of that one to me here, and one of this one, too".

It was great. Too bad I didn't have the balls to ask for a campaign contribution (I was running for Mayor in Glendale, AZ at the time...I suck as a politician!!) :D

Jefnvk, hmm...pretty much every rap "artist" comes to mind....

Rappers are great shots...just hold the gun on it's side the ejected shells hit ya' in the head and yell boo-yah, boo-yah, boo-yah as you fire each round :p
