Abomination or cool?

Check out my Blackhawk. Put the Weaver rail on just now. Trijicon red dot sits on top.

See it. Shoot it.

My eyes have gotten to the point where I've relaxed my crusade against optics. If you need 'em, you need 'em...

Yep, if you need 'em you need 'em. :) At this point in my life, optics are definitely an abomination on a SA :p . I am sure that will change down the road though....

I am not a fan of scopes or other optics on handguns (except the TC Contender) but it's not my gun. You like it? All that matters.

Steve -- nicely done, and my older eyes now need the assist

can you please supply the name, cost & where you got the rail?

it looks to be screwed in place of the rear sight and the front is a clamp coller; yes?

i like to shoot my 30 , 44 mag & 45 lc silhouette & 100 yards.
i have red-dot on my 1911 and what you have is looks like 2 thumbs up
for my red & blackawks

I am just not a fan of that mount. I've seen some hot looking SA with RDS and such. My fav was the one mounted to the barrel and it allowed cowitness. super slick.

Entirely your call !!!

Abomination or cool?
Neither, by my measure and although I would not do this, I certainly can't be critical. That looks like a Weaver base and if so, no drilling and tapping is required but that front ring, will mark the barrel.. .... :)

Be Safe !!!

It depends.

For a long time I had a SBH open sights and would use it when deer came within what I thought was doable.

Many tries; only one success.

Then I put an Ultradot on it and sitting down with a Primos Trigger Stick I can hit a 6" target at 50 yards all day long (until the multi-shot flinching sets in).

And I still have not magnified my field of view.

Abomination? or enhance-a-ma-nation?

All I know is it dramatically changed my .44.

FWIW, the stainless 7-1/2" Ruger won't cross your eyes when you see it with the black optics; kinda goes real good with the black Hogue rubber finger-groove wraparounds.

Just wish I knew how to post pics.

I'm not gonna give you and grief about making it more shootable for yourself. I did this one more years ago than I want to admit to for pistol hunting. Magna Port, sight rail, grips cut to fit my hand(yup got big hands), and trigger job light and smooth. Have brought home deer, wild pig, and bear with it. If I ever go pistol hunting agin I'll have to put a dot on it next just don't see the sights well enough anymore to hunt with out aid.

This is the one you want. No drilling or tapping. Just unscrew the rear sight. Tap out the pin and screw in the rail with a dab of threadlocker.

The ring is polymer so we'll see if it leaves a mark, but even if it does that's OK. This revolver has a job to do and that's to put meat on the table with the awesome .45 Colt cartridge.

Reviews for the rail are mostly favorable. I'll report back after I sight it in.

I made a short video here.

Steve I am not a collector of heirloom firearms. Everything I own is a tool. That is not to say they can't be used for more than one purpose or that looks don't matter. I think it looks OK, but more importantly, I think if adding optics to your revolver makes you happy that is a cool thing. Enjoy!

I'm all for technology if it improves shooting. My eyes are starting to age and I have noticed significant degradation in my sight picture. The small red dots help me out quite a bit.
