A New .45ACP Revolver

Why did Tamara have to remind me that the snubs are all made in the same calibers as the Trackers? Waiting until June is bad enough, now she has me thinking that I may have to wait for the snub. Until that this gun jumped up to the first thing I buy after it comes out, number one on my 'must have list'. Oh well, I like Taurus and I like .45acp- maybe I should get both.

Seriously, I hope the pattern carries on and this gun is made in a snub too. As some people here may have seen I had really been interested in the Taurus 450 (the 2" snub .45lc) but ammo availability and cost changed my mind. If they make it in .45acp that would solve both problems and this would be the perfect carry gun (should I ever live in a state that allows CCW) and with my love of small guns, .45acp and revolvers would probably become my favorite gun very quickly.

I know you're eavesdropping

There's gotta be someone from Taurus who has the duty to scroll through these forums regularly to see what we're saying about their products...

So for the Taurus "eavesdropper"....make us a Tracker with 2" inch barrel, with choices of finishes and no porting in 45acp and you'll see them fly off the racks (so to speak).

Most of us who are 45acp afficianados tend to shoot that round in high quantities and don't like changing callibers too much.:D

Taurus $5 ACP Revolver

If there is someone from Taurus trolling this board make it in 4, 5, or 6 in first. I have been waiting for one of these for at least 10 years. I knew Taurus would get around to it eventually. Won't buy a Smith.

uh-oh. Does this mean you aren't a member of the NRA?

No, been a member for a while now. Joined while I was still living with parents. I am now married with my own place. All my NRA suff (along with some bills) gets set to my parents house which I only go to about once a month. I should get the address changed but I have not taken the time to do so yet.

Actually, I like the porting on my Taurus M617T (titanium) in 357 mag. :) The porting reduces muzzle flip immensely in this 19-oz revolver, allowing for faster follow-up shots. And firing a 357 mag at night is going to create one heck of a muzzle flash either way-- that's the price of carrying this caliber!

Bob thats some serious looking iron... I'm not sure if I like it or not.

My point was not what a similar sized Colt or SW would WEIGH, it just seems like the pistol could be pretty small with modern metalurgy. I already have a full sized 1917 Colt, so a companion "snubby" would be cool. I don't mean a Fitzpatrick special (though that too would be cool), I was thinking.. well if charter arms could put out a 5 shot 44special (about the same as a 45acp), WHY is Taurus building a REALY BIG (however lightwieght) 5 shot 45? The weight helps keep down the recoil, and you therefore wouldn't need those recoil absorbing grips.

Does that make sense?

Maybe I just want toooo much.

Reading some of your posts makes this Taurus 45 ACP sound like and "N Frame" Smith. My understanding is this gun will be on the Tracker frame which is much closer to an L-Frame Smith. Compairing it to 1917s is kind of silly.

Also, you guys who want a 2" - a 3" barrel is no harder to hide, particularly IWB, and the velocity from a 3" would be much more acceptable/effective than from a 2" barrel with a barrel/cylinder gap to suck up even more velocity.

Everyone has their preferences but I would like to see a 3" L-Frame size with no ports (45ACP is a low pressure round) and fixed sights.

Looks like it would be a nice gun to shoot in IDPA for the revolver class, certainly will be more affordable than the 1955 Smiths.

Picked up Tracker 45acp a week ago in 4inch config. Best damn revolver for the money I have ever shot,my opinion thou. Allways been a Big Ruger fan and over the years have shot and owned several Smiths and Colts..

First thing I did was to change out to the lightest Wolff Springs and then went to the range and shot everything from
Swc to Corbon Powerball. No problems with any of my reloads, says alot.

What was amazing to me, I actually enjoy these new Moon clips. I can work them without complaining. The gun comes with 5 and I have reloaded and unloaded one over 30 times and its just like new. Holds the rounds together and can be loaded and unloaded in a few seconds.

Finally a revolver I really enjoy and have got my order in for another 4 inch and one in 6 inch. Anyone for some 1911s?

DROOL (RUGERRUGERRUGER) -- No, I don't drink.

My perfect Taurus wheel is my 5.5" Redhawk (I am allowed to dis their wheels; my backup 'always' is a PT22).

Anyone care to relate their experience of firing a ultra-light 41 Mag/45 Colt? Huh wouldya?

Yeah right LOL........(ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch.......)

A while back a request for a scanned copy of the ad on the back cover of the American Rifleman magazine was requested.

Attached is a pic of that gun.

Okay, but seriously. If I've been in the market for a 625 with a four-inch barrel, should this new Taurus be a viable option? I'm talking CCW, too.

The 625 4" is available from S&W new this year. The 625 5" has been available since 1989. Both are 6 shot and built on S&W's largest frame known as the N frame. The new Taurus is only a 5 shot which means it is nowhere near as big as the Smith. The Taurus is built on the Taurus equivalent of Smith's L frame which means it is about the same size as a Smith 686 or 696. I have a 696 in .44 Special and really like it. If Smith would make a 696 in .45 ACP with moon clips and a 3" barrel, I would absolutely love it. I think the 4" barrel is too long and I can't stand ported barrels or the Taurus grips.
