A gun for when your vehicle craps out

Do you have a gun in a emergency kit if your vehicle craps out ? I just got a tool bag from michelin tire co .with a bunch of road side stuff .I have a CWP so I put a little extra something in there .S&W M 60 38 sp plus 50 rounds.

Definite no for me...

... but then my work takes me to military bases and airports. I'd hate to forget a loaded handgun in my vehicle and then get subjected to a random security search. Good way to lose security clearances, employment, and freedom.

When not traveling to and from such places, I usually carry, so there's no need for a gun in the kit.

None for me. It's usually on my person anyway. But I don't like to leave a gun in the truck unless the law prevents me from having it on me. Even then, I like to limit it's time spent in the truck.

I don't understand the question. Maybe I just am missing something.

How is a gun going to be helpful if one's car breaks down? Don't get me wrong, I can see how having a gun in the car on your person can prove useful in general, it's why I have a CHL, after all. What I don't quite get is, how it would prove useful specifically if your car craps out? My previous car crapped out on me on two occasions, and on neither of these occasions do I recall thinking, "I sure wish I had a gun in the car."

Are we talking like, you're driving down some desolate, unpaved wilderness road with no one around for hundreds of miles, the car fails, and you need a gun for survival?

I guess it's for when you finally need to put the car out of its misery with a fatal round to the block?:p

Nah... I CC. No leaving firearms in the car permanently for me.

I keep one in my truck 24/7 but it's not incase it "craps out" on me. It's there incase I run outta the house in a hurry and forget my main CCW, that way I still have one near by.

IF I carried a bugout bag in my truck, it would include a lever-action .357 rifle and a box of heavy magnum loads, both for defense and feeding myself. I don't, but have thought about it. For breaking down in a bad area, I feel just fine with a knife in most places. If I was headed somewhere I didn't think that would be enough I would probably have carried that day.

"...My work takes me to military bases..."
Unfortunately, this. Not sure how bad it would be, but it's cost outweighs its benefit. Might want to consider a 12ga flare gun. Always wondered how one of those 12ga to .410 conversion cartridge things would work in one.

I simply have a gun, period. It's always on me (I'm in Tucson these days). It's next to me in bed, it's not that far away when I'm in the shower, it's always where I know where it is - 24/7.

If I get a flat or anything else funky happens, I know where my gun is. Period.

And that makes it damned unlikely it will ever get stolen.
