I will suggest the SR-22, they have been wildly popular with new shooters and women and children. The gun is easy to rack and a fun shooter with grip inserts for different size hands. It is easy to operate the controls and is a natural fit for a lot of people.

Is it the walther that has an alloy slide that has frequently failed?
Old, and worn out at tgat, story. The ZAMAK slides haven't had a problem in years. The ones that cracked were almost all on the guns with the steel fake muzzle break that was fixed to the barrel. Most of ghe problems were with the slide striking a misaligned fake brake.
ZAMAK, by the way is the same material used in the nearly indestructible Hi-Point slides. Also used very successfully in the inner workings of Henry rifles.
Not exactly sure how many rounds through my P22. Quit worrying about keeping an estimated round count with the third or fourth RGB 550 bulk pack, and several 100 rnd boxes of CCI Mini Mag. No sign of any cracking, or excessive wear on the slide. Still hammering 'em out and getting me in trouble for not getting home on time when I take it to the range. Shootimg my P22 is like eating potato chips. Not gonna finish till the whole bag (box) is gone!

I'd choose the S&W Victory if the Buckmark and Mk series were off the list.

Actually, I'd get the Ruger GP-100 in .22LR over any of them but it's a revolver.

There is NO EXCUSE for a slide failure on a .22 no matter how old, no matter what the material, didn't you jus pretty clearly say that it was because of a bad design?

A bad design, is a bad design, and again, a design that can't even withstand a.22 long rifle is a failure that I'm really not likely to set aside without very serious consideration. Simply put, why in the world would a person ignore other reliable products and purchase this? There are plenty of alternatives.

The PPQ has a solid aluminum slide. It is one of the few that does.
It also has a steel reinforcing pin where the slide stop interfaces with the slide.
As a side note, the GP-100 or single ten would be awesome, but this is a semi-auto forum.

While I'll agree with many a MKII is a great pistol....I love my 1986 one it shoots like a champ and doesn't care what ammo you shoot.

I'll have to say my SR22 has the same reliability and easily shoots any ammo type without complaining. Accuracy is "normal" I suppose nowhere near MKII level.

I've put 4 or 5k down the barrel of the SR and it just works.

Not really. It was if the removable false brake was removed, and improperly reinstalled where the slide returning into battery slammed into it. That was only on the extended barrel "target" model that looked pretty goofy to me in the first place. All I can say about the standard model I have is it has shown no sign of a problem after more rounds than I can count.
But I also said in my first pist that if I were to buy one niw it would be the Ruger SR22 because of the improvent in sights, and safety operation. But looking at the PPQ22, I think that would be my choice now.

i always recommend a full size steel frame pistol with a 22 adapter. Learn to shot with the 22, the transition to centerfire is smoother.

The Ruger Mk, Browning Buckmark, and Beretta Neos suggestions are all pointless!!!!
The OP has clearly stated that they are not what he is looking for.

I think he made it very clear, and followed up with a great point.

LOL... these threads always remind me that I should read the OP before posting.
I am currently looking for full slide centerfire look alikes. I have NOTHING against the fan favorite buckmark or Mark whatevers, but just NOT exactly what I am looking for at the moment!

Maybe I'll start a thread in semi-auto rifles with "NO AR15" and a shotgun forum that say "NO REMINGTONS" and maybe something in revolvers about "NO S&W" hahahhaha
:D

I think a lot of people simply post after reading just the title. Either way, props to the OP for being good humored about it! Try out that Browning 1911-22.

I have had a Ruger MkI since 1954. It is reliable accurate and fun. Also had a 22/45 -- same action, different configuration. Same comments. The Ruger action has stood the acid test of time. Ruger is recommended highly.
