9mm vs .45ACP

god made man, sam colt made them equal
And you do realize that Colt's first successful revolvers were.... .36 caliber?

Even more interesting is the fact that for the first year, they were actually 28 cal with 36 being first offered in the second year of production.

Furthermore, there no Colt 45s until the model 1873 aka model P aka SAA. So for over 30 years, 44 cal or below.

Nominally, yes, but the groove diameters were .452 to .454.

That little bit of difference made a big difference in the stopping power when I fought in the indian wars. You are probably too young to remember...

Hello Kevin_d77,,,

AND they do make a .50......just sayin.....

It's kind of a moot point if you are talking about a carry weapon.

In many states (including mine) you are restricted to .45 caliber or less,,,
I can carry a Desert Eagle in .44 magnum here in OkieLand,,,
But I couldn't carry their .50 caliber model.

I was only kidding anyway....I don't see how you could carry a DE 50 regardless!

Nice to have regulations though haha....

I knew you were joking,,,

I do know one person who will occasionally carry his .44 mag Deagle.

Only in winter though,,,
He has a ballistic nylon shoulder holster for it,,,
He'll often strap that monster on and wear it under a cowboy duster coat.

I ask him why,,,
He says "Why not?"

When November the 1st rolls around,,,
Oklahoma's open carry law goes into effect,,,
I'll bet he starts wearing that thing a lot more often.

Go figure.

Regardless of the actual results of the test, .45acp is a man-stopper round and 9mm is a mouse-stopper.

(I'm a 9mm guy, so I can say this!!:D)

You really think so? I don't know man. I'm up in the air. Shot placement is king. But I've seen more law enforcement here in Miami Dade that I'm friends with still (not a cop anymore) that only use .45 when they're on duty. Narcotics, SRT..etc. I just put my G19 away last night and brought the 1911 xo out. Cause I just feel like carrying something different for CCW and I feel good but the capacity. Jesus...I never used to mind. But for the past 7 months I've been carrying 9mm exclusively. That kinda ruined my mind lol. Feel like carrying tjr G21 again o.O

To carry this today. Or to not carry this today.

Hmmm....

Not much difference in performance b/t a 9mm and a .45ACP.....and 9mm's tend to come in handier packages.

If I needed to step up in power from a 9mm, I'd go straight for a 10mm (full-power, of course) in an auto or a .45Colt in a revolver....

I have my Glock 19 with me now lol...love my 1911's but I really prefer leaving the Glock in the car instead of my 1911.

Main reason. I haven't shot the .45 as much as I used to $$$$$$

No, I was just joking around. I really believe that .45, .40 and 9mm, in modern defensive loads, are all great rounds, capable of stopping an attacker.

I believe so too...it's just in my eyes..

.40 - a pain in the arse to get a good string of bullets down range in defense. Crappy follow-up shots.

9mm - that "what if" this isn't enough bang. I mean I know it is but if I can do better then why not..however..

.45 - capacity. Oh wow this is horrible on capacity. I carry my Glock 21 don't get me wrong but you know how much better a G19 feels to carry.

.-. I'm getting a headache.
