9mm good for defense???

Oh, I avoid 10mm "lite" like the plague. I've already got a .40 cal, so why bother? I like Silvertips, except in the crowded retail environs of the gun shop (call me paranoid), where I used to use CorBon 135's, but now am switching to Triton's 155gr QuikShok: 155gr/1400fps/674fpe... It'll do.

10mm: It's not the size of the Dawg in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog!

Whoops! Thread veer... As I was saying, in my P7M8, I like Federal's 9BPLE when I remember to order some. When I forget, Triton's 115gr +P suits me fine. Even though it's only *gasp* a single-stack 9mm, I for some reason feel perfectly at ease carrying it...

Better? ;)

Tamara, my comment was meant completely in jest :D I know full well how a trend can start off being about one thing and end up on something totally differet :) I guilty of that myself ;) but I do have a serious question for you and it should be in your mailbox by now

I've got a love / hate relationship going with a model 39-2.

Each single thing about it ( DA/SA instead of SA, slide instead of frame mounted safety, 9mm instead of 45 acp, auto instead of revolver, and I swore I'd never trust a Smith auto after that 59 jammamatic ) is contrary to what I want in a pistol.

There is only good thing about it. I shoot better and faster with it than with any other handgun and it has never failed to go bang. So what does the ability to put two or 3 precisely placed bullets almost simultaneously on target do to stopping power? Go figure.

Topic veer ...

Rusty, It's too bad your never tried their second (and ESPECIALLY) their third generation pistols. I've shot SIGs, Berettas, etc.; and I swear by S&W's third generation autos. It's a shame that we'll never see them again :(

Oh, the topic veer was to discussion of different generations of the Smith autos? I did try the 3rd gen. 5944 DAO. Good gun, but if I want DAO I'll get a revolver. As the FBI guy said, after the first shot, you're in a gunfight ( and need all the help you can get in placing fast and accurate fire on target ).

Actually, I think 9mm advantages are adequate power in an easy to shoot well and very rapidly package. As some other guy said, want to double the trauma? Shoot twice.
