I'm trying to sell off some old motorcycle gear that I don't use anymore that I should be able to get about $300 for. I think that between decent stopping power and practicing economy, I want to go with a 9mm.

Just wondering what I can expect to find for around that amount of money? (Ideally, I'd get a G19. Shot one the other day and loved it. But that's more than I can afford at the moment).

I'm posting it here instead of WTB since I don't have the money quite yet...

If I were in your position I would go looking for a deal on a used Ruger P95. You can probably pick one up for under $300 if you look around, leaving yourself some money for ammunition.

If you keep your eyes open you can sometimes find a great deal on a 9mm. I got this LNIB/Unfired S&W m659 for $300.

If you can save up another $100 bucks look into a Kahr CW9. You can get a new one for not much over $400.

...somebody with a bolded login!
That only means I wasn't smart enough to say 'no' at the proper time! :D

I think you did ok on that purchase...

Yeah, I always forget about the S&W autos. They're another company that has made some good autos but that, until recently, hasn't gotten much acclaim for them.

The S&W Sigma comes to mind. I have seen that gun for sale at $319.00. Some 9mm surplus guns may be a good choice also. I bout a Walther P38 9mm for $299.00 at Turner's Outdoorsman here in San Diego, CA in excellent condition; a couple of months later I bought a Star Model B in 9mm circa 1944 from Turner's and that was only $199.00 and also in excellent condition. Interestingly, the Star is one of the most accurate guns in my collection (2-2.5 inch groups at 25 yards) and completely trouble free. I don't shoot the P38 much because it isn't particularly that accurate, but still a fine defensive gun non the less; worth a look.

Ruger P95 !!

You can't do better than to find a Ruger P95. They are time-tested, reliable, accurate and will last several lifetimes.

It's simply a great pistol!

+1 Ruger P

Find yourself a new or used Ruger P-series!
You can't beat the quality for the price.

(if you have a CHL, get a Kel-Tec)

I second the used Ruger P-95 if you can find one. Very nice, reliable guns.

As a side note, for a little more money you can find a new 9mm. My buddy just bought a new S&W 9mm for around $369.

I had a Ruger P89 for years. Reliable, built like a tank, relatively accurate - but rather large & blocky...

You can find 3 gen Smith & Wesson 9 mm's and even some .40 cals.I bought this 4046 .40 cal for $300.00 and it even came with 3 hi-cap mag/clips too.

I have a P89 and it's one of the best shooting guns for the money out there. Just got home from putting 100 rds thru it, flawless gun.
