64 assaults on border patrol in the last three months.

Greenspan didn't argue for ILLEGAL immigration.....he argued for immigration. Exactly what has made this nation great century after century.

Not so sure, he was arguing for immigration and in new world terms that is
all immigration, the administration wants to make all 11 million legal and that
is Greenspans spin. Immigration at one time did make this nation great however many perhaps most of what we receive now have no skills and
very poor education. For point sake lets say we have a 35 year old coming
in with a 5th grade education and I see many in my area how will he help
the social security system. America now takes in more then all countries
combined and it will not work without our standards and quality of life
dropping.

"....I don't buy conspiracy BS from my government;

You may not buy it but it is there on many issues, greed and power
and there is no other goal. You can support those in power but to believe
everything they say or do is in your best interest is naive.

Fot those who cloud the issue with the Greenspan Conspiracy, the Bush Agenda or the Greed of Corporate America, I've no patience. Greenspan didn't argue for ILLEGAL immigration.....he argued for immigration. Exactly what has made this nation great century after century.

Fair enough. I agree that there are a lot of ways to cloud this issue from both sides. I am a bit more open than you to the conspiracy theories, especially those relating to corporate greed. Because I see the need for border control as being so blatantly obvious, I am not just angry at our government's negligence; I am actually dumbfounded. Bewildered. It simply does not make sense, thus my mind struggles to concieve of the "reasoning" behind the failed policies...and thus, I am more willing to look at fringe theories of "pan-America" and such simply because I am at a loss for any above-board rationale.
In any event, I agree with the tone of your post, Rich. At the heart of this issue and so many others, the problem is with us, Americans. Not only too lazy to work, in many cases, but more importantly...too damn lazy to even think.

These are the exact statements I'm talking about. You embarrass me when you post such nonsense. Tell me about the education levels of the English, the Irish, the Germans, the Italians, the Poles, the Chinese and so many other immigrant groups that BUILT THE WEALTH this nation enjoys. There's only one group that I can think of that came here well educated overall....the Cubans. The rest would be considered "rabble" by your standards.

LAK-
Only you could post those two quotes as ipso facto proof of Global Conspiracy. I suspect anagrams were required.
Rich

The Irish: drunken, lazy, uneducated, and above all Catholic. They will never become contributing Americans.

The Italians: criminals, lazy, uneducated and worse Catholic. They will never become contributing Americans.

The Chinese: poor, uneducated, good grief, they aren't even Caucasoids, let alone English speakers, how will they become contributing Americans with educations.

The Poles: backwards, uneducated, lazy, and Catholic.

The Germans: greedy, aloof, they are living in separate enclaves, not learning English. Good grief the language of instruction in public schools in some states, like Indiana, that rock-solid Amurican place, are teaching children in German, which isn't exactly English, what all red-blooded, real Americans speak.

TFL claims how many members of Irish, Italian, Chinese, Polish or German heritage???

The Jews, the Greeks ("I come to this country with $8 in my pocket"), the Mexicans, the whoever all show day after day that the USA is the place where people come, in tire rafts or packed in rat-ridden ships, to improve their lives and live beyond their potential. Educated? Name the most successful man in talk radio and I will name you a college dropout. Name the most successful man in computers and I will name you a college dropout. Job skills? Get out of their way, they will create them.

Rich, I would add the Indians and Pakistanis to your "non-rabble" list.

As to the Border Patrol, who is doing the assaulting? How many assaults did the San Diego PD sustain during the same time frame? How is this different than the days of Harlon Carter?

Rich,

(I am so UnGodly tired of the bleating and whining around here). Get a job; get an education; get a LIFE.....just stop whining!

Uh, I have TWO degrees. One in computers and one in gunsmithing. Plus more than thirty years work experience, seventeen in computers with seven of that in managment. I CAN'T BUY A JOB.

Believe me, I've tried. At 51, I'm NOT QUITE old enough to be a greeter at Wally World and DEFINITELY NOT YOUNG ENOUGH for corporate America.

I COULD work contract for Halliburton, et al by taking an overseas job, but at 51, I just don't have it in me any more. I have one friend who just left for Germany as a contract armorer. I have another in IRAQ who is also a contract armorer. Both for great money, tax free as long as they stay at least one year and one day.

Don't get me wrong. I have a pretty good life, a REALLY GREAT WIFE and I have my health, so not a whole lot of whining here. I would like a job that would pay me better than $7 - $8 an hour though. I rarely get offers even at those low hourly wages, as EVERYONE wants a kid in his late twenties or early thirties, which I haven't seen for at least TWENTY YEARS.

BUT just because there IS some whining here, don't think for ONE SECOND that all of it is undeserved.

Wallew-
I wasn't referring to you, but your own post indicates that you're a case in point. The Free Market guarantees NOTHING:
- It doesn't guarantee Aeronautics Engineers job security.
- It doesn't guarantee Computer Wizards jobs.
- It doesn't guarantee Doctors more money than a mid-level manager in a textile mill.

All it does is guarantee that you can Make Your Own Choices. Sometimes Hard Work cannot overcome Bad Luck...I understand that and I understand that it simply isn't fair. Life has never been fair.

But I hardly believe the immigrants you're complaining about are the source of your lack of marketability.

at 51, I just don't have it in me any more.
I'm your age exactly. I understand that we're not 31 any more. But this, too, is a personal decision. Find something that animates you enough and you'll work 60 hours a week gladly....I KNOW because I DO.

My point is that it's all on you, Wallew. IMHO a one bedroom rental or a cabin in the woods, with cold and hot water, heat, beans, chicken and an occasional piece of red meat is hardly subsistence. Add in good family, loyal friends, humor, books, sunshine, a good rifle, and a serviceable truck and you're living in luxury compared to 98% of the Men who ever walked this Little Spinning Rock.

If you want more...dream more; work harder. There's an Oriental saying that "Luck is the intersection of preparation and opportunity". I believe it.

Just don't blame "The Other Guy".
And, above all, don't fall prey to "Fat Cat Conspiracy"....it will rob you of every fiber of Manhood you had. I've seen this; we all have. Shape your world or you will die never having TRIED.
Rich

postscript added: Wallew, I know you're a GOOD GUY. I know you're no quitter. My comments above are for the "public"; despite the fact that your post provoked it, they are most certainly not directed at you personally. I'd break bread with you any day....proudly.

Rich,

These people have and do speak quite openly about what they are doing. And they are openly and willing participators in the organizations and institutions whose stated agendas are just what they say they are.

People like George W Bush openly state things on record, and you pretend like they are not so. If you want to try and ridicule people it might be at least amusing if it was not based on the denial of open and verifiable fact.

But enjoy the show while it lasts.

We have already been under assault for a long time: both by illegal immigrants and many politicians ( usually democrat )

Driver licenses for Illegal/Criminal immigrants?
Healthcare/Medicare for Illegal/Criminal immigrants?
Welfare for Illegal/Criminal immigrants?

Hello?

All those cost you and I far more than if they started flying a different flag...

Rich,
Thanks for that last sentence. I agree with everything you say. AND I DON'T BLAME illegal aliens for ANY of my problems.

MY PROBLEMS stem from the 'YOUTH CULTURE' that we are sold here in the US. If you are older than 40 then you MUST be worthless. While that may be a bit harsh, I know WAY TOO MANY people who are in their 40's or 50's that either can't find work OR when they do are lucky to make minimum wage.

I am the captain of my ship, so I blame NO ONE but myself. So I just keep busy doing different things. One strange thing. I was doing home repair for seniors. I really enjoyed what I was doing, even though I wasn't making tons of money.

Then my wife heard a tale told by the guy who explains benefits to the employees at the company she works at every year so they keep up with all the new stuff. The anecdote he told was about a semi-retired guy doing home repairs. In one instance, a home he worked on burned to the ground. After the fire department determined that it was NOT his fault, the lady who owned the home insurance company came after the guy. He lost everything. He did NOT have liability insurance. Lost his home, his savings, everything.

SO I QUIT doing home repairs at my wifes request. Now I just try to do things around the house, an occasional freelance writing assignment, etc. Just try to stay busy.

But I know that I and lots of other people that are my age have LOADS to contribute and we can't. Sad if you think about it.

BTW, how do you like being owner (along with the bank and other investors) of SWAT magazine? I'm thinking on starting up a small local magazine. I was just wondering, if you had it to do over again, WOULD YOU?

I like Richard Petty's definition of LUCK: 95% preparation, 5% opportunity

I modified it slightly to cover SEX: 95% mental, 5% mechanical

Off topic response to off topic question.

Well, considering I do not believe in carrying debt (personal or business), and haven't since I was 31; and considering that I have no investors or banks involved in this enterprise, I'd have to think about whether I like the business or not.

It's a terrible business from a financial standpoint; I've not taken a salary since I took it over nearly 4 years ago; I've pumped more money into it than you could believe; magazine shelf space is very competitive; magazine sales are dwindling because nobody reads anymore.

OTOH, I have the best crew in the world; SWAT has moved from loosing $30,000 per issue to profitable; I take orders from neither partners (other than Denny ;)), investors, creditors or directors; we've proven that editorial and advertising integrity build magazine sales, regardless of the market.

So, now that I thought about it, I LOVE IT! :D Seriously, would I do it again? Watch me. ;)

You're expected to do a bit more critical thinking and external research before you make these kinds of blanket statements.

Rich from reading this thread I believe you consider thoughts "ok" only if they
align with yours.

Fot those who cloud the issue with the Greenspan Conspiracy, the Bush Agenda or the Greed of Corporate America,

While I never said anything about conspiracy it does seem odd that as
the president promotes a social security reform and immigration that
Greenspan would also comment on the subject.

As for greed of corporate america, well if you dont see that I am
embarrassed for you.

In all things I respect others views however in this case I will say
for sure we disagree and stop at that.

Wingman-
Most posters here don't agree with me....mainly because I don't wear many "absolute" positions on my sleeve. Many I can't agree with, not because I don't agree with their stand, but because I don't agree with their delivery and backup.

Case in point remains your own statement, "Immigration at one time did make this nation great however many perhaps most of what we receive now have no skills and very poor education." I mean, it takes about a 9th Grade level US history class to realize that statement is simply surreal. No opinion there....it's a simple matter of documented history.

Here's a mantra I'm going to start using when I find people making clearly irresponsible claims, no matter whether they're Left, Right, Green or Yellow:
I Post Under My Real Name As An Issue Of Credibility. I Always Have. Why Do You Post This Kind Of Stuff Under An Anonymous Handle?

I ask for a reason....I'm considering limiting the L&P Forum only to people who post under real and verified names.
Rich

Rich,

And not as if one has any rational and reasonable excuse for wanting to remain anonymous on a public forum; I mean you don't hear gun owners expressing concerns about the idea of all their names being on a government - or public - register.

For someone who must have a fairly good grasp of the history of this country, it's founding ideologies, the political world around the private ownership of firearms in this country, and has a business - especially the one you are in - you have an amazing ability to compartmentalize some universal truths.

LAK-
Now I see. It's not "safe" for you to publish your name, as I do. But it's perfectly OK for you to "endanger" me by allowing me to be the unwitting host to your own brand of, ummmm, "journalism"????

I must really be S-T-O-O-P-I-D. By your own standards, if I wanted the same "protection" that you enjoy, I should delete any post you make that you wouldn't wish published under your own name. OTOH, believing as you do, why would you possibly wish to place me in so much "danger" from "The Overlords"?

Looking at it from where you stand, it kinda seems a bit abusive of my name. Know what I mean?
Rich

Assualts on the INS

Being an Illegal invader and unarmed is not a capitol offense and our INS doesn't carry out executions upon them

Firing at a US Border patrolman is a serious crime and they are trained and armed for their own protection and for the enforcement of US law. I fail to see why each INS vehicle on the border from Texas to California shouldn't be equipped with a sun roof and a M-60 mounted thereon.

And/or if not needed in Iraq, why a complete US Marine Infantry Division shouldn't be placed on that border to assist the INS?

Rich,

I know you know me. WALLEW is my nome de plume.

For those of you not familiar with that term, it means 'the name I write under'.

If you did a google search on my name, Jim Waldrep, you would find that I am a boilermaker in West Texas. Which I am not.

If, on the other hand you did a google search on Wallew, you would come up about a page and a half of my opinions and articles I've written.

I checked under my 'description' of who I am here at TFL. I guess there is no place to give my name.

BTW, I hate you. I agree with your economic situation entirely. But I hate that you had the ability to buy SWAT outright and I DIDN'T.

Is that green envy enough for you? All the best. Keep up the great work.

Jw

Wallew-
Of course we all know you. You use a handle for ease, not for anonymity. No offense meant.
.....you had the ability to buy SWAT outright and I DIDN'T.
That part is the issue of luck in a former life and career. The financial hemorrhaging Denny, Kathy, Dennis, Rob and I lived thru was the Bad Luck that always seems to trail along.

But know this; I was comfortably retired for 8 years before I bought SWAT. Just how big do you think my risk and liability is today?...."But I read it in S.W.A.T. Magazine." There's no affordable liability insurance available for that type of suit. That part is willingness to take risks to achieve a dream.

I've never gained anything worthwhile in life without risk....and I know very few who have ever been taken seriously in anonymity. That's only part of the reason I scoff when anonymous posters whine that the high profile "Fat Cats" had it somehow handed to them by "The System".

Still waiting for the Decoder Ring that renders me Above the Law and Impervious to the Legal Attacks of the Little People.
Rich

Rich,

You chose to use your real name on this forum from the start. Some other people use their real names on this and other forums no doubt, but it is not that many. It is a calculated risk to do so, and IMO a foolish one for most average people.

Now if you are fortunate enough to have a generous buffer zone around you (and this can take many forms - it can be geographical, or it can be institutional for example, or a combination thereof), and generous resources, the risk can be greatly reduced. Eliminate saying anything that might upset anyone else - I.E. stick with mainstream - and your risks are reduced even more.

But enforcing a policy of using real names is simply going to greatly reduce participation, or greatly dilute content - or both. If I were in your position and I thought anyone posting things on a political line not exclusively concerning firearms was too risky; I would close that forum completely. Forcing everyone to use real names is unlikely to deter someone's theoretical anger at you personally for someone else posting something they don't like on your site.
