50 yard shot, your 'go-to' handgun?

How can I phrase this...

Let's limit this to three of our carry guns. Some are more difficult to shoot accurately with, some more natural and just feel 'right'. It doesn't even have to be 50 yards, just something that feels like an extension of your arm and is naturally easy to use.

Here's mine.

CZ 75BD, if I had to make a critical shot at 50, it would be this one.

Sig 220, tougher for me due to the ergonomics and it's POI sight setup.

SP101 3", doubtful I could hit anything smaller than a plate at that distance unless I really concentrated.
 
The only pistol that I would count on at 50 yards might be something like my Smith 66. My autos have fixed sights and are not accurized, I suppose I could test fire them to figure out how much holdover or windage they would need at that range, but probably would not be as accurate anyway. I assume I can fire single action with the rev. What are you gonna shoot at, at 50 yards anyway? What did you have in mind? If I have all the guns to choose from, I will grab a long arm and make it easy!
 
For most people and most situations 50 yds is, realistically, rifle range. But since you have specified handguns, this is moved to that forum.
 
My scoped 9 1/2" Ruger Super Redhawk. Oh wait, you said carry gun. I could probably hit a man sized target at 50 yards with my G36 or G23. Next time I'm shooting I'll have to find out.
 
I'm not sure what your asking, are you just talking SD pistols/revolvers or handguns in general.

So I'll say IT DEPENDS. I like banging away at long range targets with pistols. Shooting from 50 - 200 yards with my 357s 44s and TC pistols, JUST FOR FUN, I dont hunt with pistols. Then I shoot Bullseye a bit and am required to shoot 50 yards so I practice with my Bullseye pistols.

I do for fun shoot 50 to 100 yards with my 642 carry pistol. But just for fun, I can see no case where I'd be shooting 50 yards or more in a self defence situation.

So I guess, excluding bullseye, I shoot 50+ plus yards just for the fun of it. When I was in LE I use to shoot matilic Sil with pistols, thats 50 to 200 yards. I did it with my service revolver, it wasnt the best choice, and it didnt know over the rams very often, but I do think it helped me in my shooting of my service revolver.

Long range with a pistol is fun, not practical but fun, hell, read Fast and Fancy Revolver shooting then go see if you can hit targets at 600 yards with you pistol

We primary shoot for fun dont we. (Or at least I do since I'm an old retired hasbeen now).
 
Yesterday at the range I was hitting a man-size target at 100 yards with my CZ SP-01 quite easily, by which I mean 30-50% of the times. So that's my choice.

Truth be told, I dont think I'm hitting a fifty yard shoot with any handguns. The longest distance I shoot I 25 yards, the extent of my indoor range. My 25 yard shots are not pretty.
 
I believe you'd be on seriously thin legal ice if you shot at a BG from 50 yards. Remember:

1. Intent
2. Ability
3. Opportunity
 
since we are talking about carry guns, & 50 yards... ( which I never shoot that far with my carry guns )... I guess I'd offer 3 options...

1st I'd be likely to try & expect the better results, would be my FN 5.7 ... next would likely be my Witness 10mm, 3rd would likely be my airlite L frame S&W in 44 Special...

reasons... the 44 is my go to gun, but slower velocity & heavy bullets, would likely not put me on target at 50 yards out of a 3" barrel... the 5.7 gets shot a lot less, but has the best tragectory, so it'll likely be the "most on target" by the sights of my carry guns...

leaving out my 22 lrMini, 32 H&R Magnum J Frame, & 9mm CZ-75... I suppose I do on occasion carry my full sized snubbies in 44 Magnum, & 454 Casull, so they be the next to try after the 1st 3 listed...
 
50 yard shot? My S&W Model 10 with a 125gr, 130gr, or 142gr bullet (I haven't tried it with other bullets). That's good enough to hit a NRA B-6 (8" bullseye) target at 50 yards, every time. Which should be good enough to hit the chest area of a BG at that distance.
