45 under your pillow

Ha no thanks... I had a dream that I could fly and I almost broke my neck going down the stairs a few minutes later... So I keep them unloaded in a corner with a loaded mag hidden a little bit away, don't want myself coming out of an Halo dream shooting any family members ;)

If you have EVER been confused after waking up suddenly, then seriously consider leaving the gun out of arms reach.

How I did it

Being the cheapskate that I am.....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

....I made a bedside holster-holder from a scrap piece of 3/16 plexiglass from the pile of junk in my yard. Started with 10x12" piece, used a jigsaw to carve out a tang to fit my soft-side Ambi-Holster, heated with a propane torch to bend it at the appropriate spot, leaving a tab about 6" deep, 10" long that slides between the mattress and box-spring on 'my' side of the bed. Smoothed the cut edges with a grinder or sandpaper, then hit 'em lightly with the torch flame, just enough to smooth out the scratches. Works great, I can take the gun and holster right off my belt or out of my briefcase or range bag and slide it right onto the tang without even waking the GF. Works so well I made another to hold 2 Maglights and cellphone. Holster also carries spare 7-rd mag for the .45 and a Gerber Valloton. Truck key and wallet would be a good addition, too!

Attached are pics...kinda crappy--you'll notice the cellphone is not hanging from its lanyard hook, cuz I had to use it to take the pic! (left the good camera at the office...again!)

MauiDoc:
What happened? Don't believe in Hawaii being the frendliest place in the world?
Did you see some of the 100 year old Hawaiian plates, with teeth, human teeth, embedded in them? Yes, just about 100 years ago, Hawaiians might enjoy you for dinner...

Then the Samoans, who have no concept of private property. In their defense, everything rusts, rots or mildews so fast in Hawaii that it doesn't make much sense to own much stuff, and, sharing what you have is a good idea, so folks get use out of their money.

Maui getting the Oahu Meth problem? You'd think it would be easy to keep drugs off such a bunch of small islands in the middle of the ocean...

The only problem I had sleeping on my Seville was the moisture, rust problems, and, if I oiled the gun enough, then it got all over my sheets, and pillow case. FA 83 solves that problem...

This might have had something to do with it:
"His home was being checked because he had threatened to throw a hand grenade if the city council approved plans to build a high-voltage power line in his neighbourhood," Baumgarten said. "The decision to take his licence was made independently."

I don't know of evidence that people in the 19th Century were more gun-dependant than we are now. Guns were prevalent, but not like in movies. Most people were just trying to get by, many keeping guns (long or short) to ward off evil, but not looking forward to using them. Sound familiar?

Guns under pillows? I dunno.... maybe. Maybe about like now.

Sleep with the gun under your pillow --

You've been watching too many Hollywood movies.

If your living conditions are so dangerous that you need a gun under the pillow, you need to seriously consider doing something about where you live.

If YOU think you need to sleep with a gun under your pillow, you need to talk with your doctor and see about getting some professional help. That sort of hyper-vigilance is demonstrably pathological.

I would not go as far as the above...

But a gun under the pillow does seem to be a poor choice when there are so many options.. Seems that a night stand would be faster and less likely to get lost or snagged.

I have little kids so no free guns are out and about not even under pillows. I used to keep it strapped to the bedpost but now its in a Gunvault on the nightstand.

I normally have a pistol next to the bed on a nightstand. Condition 1 in a 1911 is the norm here. Night sights let me know where it is in case I forget; I highly recommend them for this role.

The few times that I find a need to put one under my pillow, a 1911 will go condition 3. It should be noted I think a condition 3 1911 is generally a liability and try to avoid it as much as possible.

Sleeping with a gun under the pillow seems unsafe to me. Why not on the night stand? Its still extremely close and much safer.

i got a xd .40 full size that sits inbetween the frame matress it works for me. but i also got a damn good house dogs as well. If you get to me without me hearing your screams of pain and aginie. you deserve to get a few rounds in you

1. I sleep on my stomach with my hands under my pillow. That's asking for a problem.

2. My Mossy Shotgun would be very uncomfortable under my pillow (I don't have a handgun yet, hopefully around Christmas). I have it leaning on the wall next to my bed, three in the tube, and empty chambered.
