The 40 S&W and 10mm both use .400" bullets through a .400" bore; the 41 AE uses .410" originally intended for the 41 Magnum.
The 40 S&W is short; the 10mm is longer. Cases are different internally (the 10mm is NOT just a longer 40).
The 10mm requires a longer frame to accomadate its length; the 40 S&W is short like the 9x19.
The 41 AE is also short like the 9/40, but due to its larger diameter it can fire same-weight bullets at lower pressure (normally; no absolutes).
So what I got is a 10-shot "41 Special" in a flat handy autoloader that utilizes the finest of modern defense bullets at managable recoil levels.
My .410" 170g and 180g JHP-types launch at 1000--11000fps (based on specifics).
And, at least through my gun and some other examples I've fired, incredibly accessible accuracy; shooter-friendly platform and straight-shooting cartridge (yes, mine's been superbly reliable, too; my first requirement from a bet-yer-life gun).
