.357SIG ... a passing fad?

If you want a .357 SIG, get yourself a new barrel for one of your .40 cal guns. This would be the easy and cheaper way to have one.

The 135 grain corbon load is a good one and it is what I used to carry before I became a 357 sig convert. I stopped carrying the load however for several reasons: 1. it was terribly in accurate in my carry gun at the time (sig 229), 2, It was not as fast as advertised it averaged 1280 from my sig 229 while the same gun with a 357 sig barrel did 1380 with 125 grain loads, 3, Corbons quality control has gone down hill and I had some dud rounds and some other problems. I no longer trust corbon. I like their philosphy just not there sloppy manufacturing. Also where I live I have fly out to get ammo anyway and 357 sig rounds are plentifull in Anchorage and they cost the same as 40's. SO if your 40 usp is truly accurate then great but my expierence with the 40 has shown that it is not as accurate as the 357 sig nor the 9mm,45 or 10mm.
So by all means stick with the 40 but I challenge you to try the 357 sig I think you will like it.

Rainbow Six,great post.I am truly not knocking the 357sig.I own the HK USP Compact .40 and have also fired the same gun with the 357sig.To me I dont see any difference in acurracy.I agree with sigfan about the downslide of Corbon and have moved to ProLoads.I think any caliber moving 1000fps plus is more then ideal for both exspansion and penetration. So I find the diferences between the .40 and .357 to be minimal. For where I live the .40 is cheaper and I do have more choices in ammo.Want to see a true performer. My new Kimber with 200gr Gold Dots is awsome.Have a good weekend. I love my Glock 33, but I'm beginning to wonder about the caliber. I just inspected my Triton Quik-Shok, 115 grain and found four of my thirty-six round contain a bullet which had collapsed into the shell. Two were slight, but two were very pronounced. That really scares me. Is this rare? Is it Triton, or is it a poorly designed round. I'm wondering if safety has been compromised in order to provide the extra energy in such a small package???

Time will tell.
Watch what State Patrols do.
Triton--return.
Use Gold Dot or ProLoad.

The 357 SIG is very safe to use as long as the bullet is either glued or a cannelure crimp is used on a cannelured bullet. The 357 SIG should be treated like a small rifle round.

If a reloader does not cannelure, you run a risk of one out of a hundred being loose. There are just too many variables like bullet variations, brass brand differences, brass length differences, etc.

Once again, read the head space article that is pointed to in the 357 SIG Cautionary Faq on www.greent.com in the Calibers section.

No bullet setback in several hundred rounds of Federal, Atlanta Arms, Georgia Arms and Speer. Haven't shot any other brands yet. I have two boxes of Winchester Ranger "T" 125gr that I have inspected and I don't see any problems with these either.

Not saying it can't happen, just that it hasn't happened to me yet, thank God. :)

I spoke with Triton yesterday about the four out of forty bullets with setback. BTW: Two bullets could be rotated without resistance in the case. They told me that they have never had a report of bullet setback in the Quik-Shok. They offered to provide a box of Hi-Vel, but I told them that I would wait for the Quik-Shok. They said that it was out of stock. Then they offered three boxes of Hi-Vel. Now, I'm curious to see if they use the same case, or perhaps the bullet differs. It may be true that they did not have any in stock, but they sure seem interested in me using Hi-Vel rather than Quik-Shok. Your posts have been helpful for the future. I do think that more care is needed in the selection of this caliber.
