.357 sig vs every other handgun ammo

I know this post is late by a few years but for future uses I have 9mms, a Sig P229 .40/.357 Sig, and a .45 ACP. I have done research and my own tests. The .357 Sig round is perfect for having to shoot through obsticales such as cars. I use Winchester 125 Grain FMJs as my concealed carry choice. It's clean burning and accurate. You wouldn't think you would have to shoot through a car to hit someone but even as a civilian the possibility is there. I carry this gun for the purpose of if I hit someone the round will not overpenetrate however will go through obstacles. For home defense I use a 12 gauge shotgun and a Judge with .410 cause they will not overpenetrate walls unless slugs are used or if just really close to a wall. For outside the home I carry the Sig P229 .357 Sig. There are reasons Federal Law Enforcement and Texas State Troopers carry it and for those reasons I also carry it.

The .357 sig was designed to mimic one load of the .357 mag, and does it reasonably well. If you put a heavier bullet in the case, it no longer mimic's the performance of the .357 mag due to less case capacity.

It's a fine cartridge in it's own right, but doesn't begin to compare as "the best handgun cartridge" for uses other than self-defense. In fact, there are several I prefer for self-defense.

Anytime someone claims something to be the best, bear in mind that "the best" is always debatable, and is usually a matter of opinion.

ill take the 357 magnum

Ill take a 357 magnum any time. You can use it in so many kinds of guns from Derringers to J-frames to large 8 shot revolvers to semiautomatics like the Desert Eagle or the Coonan to lever actions to bolt actions like the new Ruger.

Common ammo comes in a range from 110 to 180 grain, It is very easy to reload (no bottle neck).

the 357 sig comes close to the factory loaded 357 magnum rounds in 125 grain but once you go heavier bullets the 357 magnum has much more energy than the 357 sig.

The hottest ammo out there such as buffalo bore the 357 magnum has a significantly higher amount of energy than the 357 sig.

I can only see 1 advantage that the 357 sig has over the 357 magnum and that is magazine capacity.

p.s. all that said I would feel just as safe with a 357 sig on my hip as I would any other hand gun (so long as I have had experience with it).
