357 fits in a j frame 38 Spl +P

I had one with Ruger that was a "that's impossible" .... but they learned it wasn't. Semi-auto ... that was not fully chambering the round but still shooting it..... with all the pressure blowing out the side of the casing and out the side of the gun.

Good for you sounds like everything is just peachy keen.

Now, take that known 38 spl and lay a 357 bullet beside it and I'll bet it will look just like your first photo.:D ;)

LOL - Won't make that mistake again. :o

Glad you got your gun back, in proper working order. "Replaced cylinder" is what they did, which I believe they are required to tell you. We all know why they had to replace the cylinder, but the how on how it got that way in the first place we'll probably never know.

S&W would likely consider that proprietary info, and as such won't be sharing it with the world at large. probably will be sharing that info vigorously inside the company, especially in those depts involved in making your gun, but we won't hear about it, unless you have an "informed source" inside S&W....

Gun is fixed, problem over, right?

Yes, the problem has been solved to my satisfaction and there is no reason for me to be beating on S&W. They fixed it and sent it back (the first time) in a very short turnaround period.

Would like to have been a fly on the wall when the problem was discussed at the QC meeting(s)!

Perhaps they posted an employee memo at the plant....

"All break-time Jenga games involving loose cylinders will now cease!"

I can see it happening. The assembler picks up the wrong cylinder, fits it to the gun, checks for function and sends it on to be test fired. "Test fire person" loads two or three(bet they are standard pressure .38's no matter which caliber is being tested), pulls the trigger and it goes bang. Next stop is the shipping department. The OP found the error because he was curious. You can bet Smith is investigating the possibility that more are out there.
