.308 Home Defense?

You don't want .308 anything if ...

1. You have family members in the house
2. Kids...see 1
3. Neighbors any where close.

I can guarantee that any house built in the last 10 years or so .308 will fully penetrate. At least to the point of being very very unwise.

There are far better loading.

Think about what the police use for drug raids. They have the same concerns you have or should have. Killing innocent folks and over penetration. What do they use ?

Every single lethal munition used by police is more than capable of penetrating the inside walls in a house.

But since you ask. Entry teams use ARs, typically with varmint type defensive rounds. Why? Because they will over penetrate less than a JHP pistol round or a load of 00 buckshot out of a 12 gauge.

Yep. This. 110gr .308 HP will scramble a dude's insides and stop there or hit a wall and disintegrate more readily than less energetic, heavier pistol rounds. Same goes for .223 as you noted.

Anybody who thinks "home defense" and thinks that they need more than a 20-gauge with #9 Skeet has a seriously monstrous mansion for a house.

"Over-penetration" means that you're worrying about problems inside the residence. So you're not out in the yard, repelling the Pagan Horde.

How many of you 308ers and 00Buckies are likely to have indoor shots beyond ten yards?
