300 yard golf ball?

We use fired shotgun shells for targets end on at the 200 and 300 so golf balls are easily do-able. A good varmint rifle (steyr provarmint) on bags makes this no great challenge. When I am having a good day it is 10/10 at 200 and maybe 7/10 at 300.

Whats going to be hard is seeing the Golf Ball. One time I was atempting to hit a Quarter at 200 yards without a rest. I could not see the Quarter. I had to tape it in the center of a standard rifle target and line up my cross hairs to pull it off. It took a few shots and a scope adjustment but i hit it.

i have a private range and put a hole in the golf ball and suppended it on a string. at 100 yds my son-in-law hit it regular with a 22 marlin while it swing in wind, on the other hand at 25 uds. with bretta 9mm it took me several clipe to hit it. i dont think being 80 yrs old was the problem, just the wind? cjs

Good stuff! Here in a few weekends, I'm sure I'll get a shot to try this out. I'll try to put up either pix or a vid.

This is three printer paper targets in a vertical row at 300 yards, on a target stand.

I don't think I could see a golf ball at that distance with iron sights.

I would be willing to try it with the 527M sometime, just got a 22.5 inch drop with my handload at that range. :)

Don't blame him, he has never tried to hit a small target at 300. We all learn from experience - I would not see a golfball at 300 and the military attested me 172% eyesight.

Yes it would be impossable at 300 yards with iron sights. With a good scope it is not that hard to do. A decent rifle sighten in should pull 1.5 inch groups at 300 yards easy. We were shooting a 8 inch gong at 600 yards yesterday.
If you have the Rifle,Scope and a good load this is something that can be done. The camera picture leaves a lot to be desired. Plain 8 1/2 x 11 pc paper is very easy to see at 300 yards.

If you ever pull it off it will be occasional hit. You would miss more than you hit. It would be very frustrating as wind deflection will be a severe pain. Even a very light wind.

come and take it We pull it off every weekend. Hit miss ratio is nothing as what you are thinking. 6 or 7 hits out of ten shots. Golf ball is about 1.5 inch diameter. At 300 yards it is not that hard.

I have a balloon shoot coming up the 25th of this month. 3 inch ballons at 400,500 and 600 yards. And for $5.00 bucks extra an egg at 600 yards (worth 2000 points).

4runnerman - sounds interesting...if it's a public shoot do you mind saying where it is going to be?

Armoredman - that is a really nice range you've got there! It's so nice I'm pretty sure I'd attempt shots beyond my ability and then get a little "frustrated" at my 300 yard results. Could be fun though.

I got one really nice 3 shot group at 300 yards, but didn't get try again - every time I trudge 300 yards down range I wonder if my stuff will still be there when I trudge back, since I rarely have a shooting buddy, and this range is unmonitored.
That range, BTW is also 100% free.

One other restriction on me shooting at that range is all I shoot in rifle is 7.62x39mm, and the rainbow starts to open up at that range. :D

bet I could do that with my eyes closed. With a .22lr. In the middle of one of our 50mph winds gusts. Cause that's a really big golf ball!!

Kaching! Dude deserves a prize for that one:D:D:D

Wish i would've put a golf ball in the center ;). Shot that the other day @ 302. Nothing incredible but enough to hit a golf ball given a couple tries.

Do I get to yell "Fore!!!" before I shoot?

Of course

Probably not hard at all....

Now, if you had to hit it on the FIRST shot, with a 100 yard zero... that would be a different story.

Dale A-- Yes it is a public shoot.Do come out,it sounds like it's going to be a fun time. It's at the Grant County Shooting Range. Here in Minnesota. It's about 20 miles South of Elbow Lake.Inbetween Ferus Falls and elbow Lake.
The egg--You opnly get One shot and thats it. 2000 points would sure help me out in the standings though.:D
