3" S&W's

For some reason I prefer 3" small frame J and K and 5" N frame S&W's. What model #'s can be found in 3"

I have a 60 -4 with a 3" and a 13 - 3 with a 3"

Did S&W make a 3" 581/586 and was it Square or Round butt
I have heard about the Customs Service 3" 686 and saw a 625 45Colt with a 3" yesterday in Allentown, but what others.

I just bought a 3" S&W J-frame model 36. I too really like the 3" revolver.

I did see a shorter bbl 686 at K's Merchandise (local store). I think it was more like 2.5" than 3" but I could be wrong.

Gila, it's the 696 - I agree, great gun.

For those wanting a 3" barrel on their K- and L-frames, I have good news... I called up the S&W Performance Center a few months ago about a rebuild they were doing for me, and in the course of conversation, asked about 3" barrels for K-frames. The technician said that they have in stock 3" barrels at $105.00, plus fitting costs. If you send your K-frame to the Performance Center, they will replace your barrel with the 3" for approximately $180.00, including shipping. I've not yet done this, but one of my Model 66's is earmarked for this conversion sometime next year.

i really like the 3"'ers too. great balance and full lenght ejection rod.

question?
which holsters are you guys using to carry yours'?
i have a 696 and i'm currently using their fobus paddle for the 4" smith medium frame

didn't the 547 (k-frame, round butt,9mm) used to come in a 3" too?

Holy grail for me is 3" model 19. They made them but not many of them :( Preformance center now has 3" 627's and 586's (round butt). Would love the 586 3" but it's ported

I use Bladetech for my everyday 3" 65. I'm happy with it, but sure there is better stuff out there. Might check out Fist, friend has one I like a lot for his 2 1/2" 66.

I first got into 3" Smiths as a compromise. I didn't want the short extraction stroke of a true snubbie, but I wanted the round butt. (Mostly 'cause of my small hands, but they conceal better, too.) At that time, all Smiths with barrels 4" or longer came with square butts or else I'd have gone for a four-incher. In 3" K-frames, I have a M66 I use for range training of newbies and my wife uses a M64 as her "car gun," so don't have any dedicated holsters for them. I have a Lew Horton 3" M624 .44 Special that I sometimes carry in a Ken Null IWB.

Hmmm... 3" guns... I have a PC13, a 640, a 36-1 and a 629-1 all in the 3" category...

Good tube length; easy to CCW, but with a full-length ejection stroke...

I have a 3" model 686 plus. It was one of 500 made in 1999 for a S&W distributor. Also have a 3" Performance Center 627.

I have TWO of the Lew Horton 3" Model 66's with case hardened triggers and hammers!!!

I gloat over them every day and would not part with them for any reason.

I bought my wife a Model 65 LS, has 3" barrel. I recall they made a regular Model 65 in 3" a few years back, now it is just 4". I'd get a regular model 65 3" if they start making them again.

I have the following 3" S&W revolvers:

547 in 9mm Parabellum
610 in 10mm Auto
625 in .45 ACP (the model of 1989)
625 in .45 Colt

In addition to the handy barrel length, the 3" N-frames usually come with a bead-blasted finish. I prefer this finish to the usual satin of the stainless models. These revolvers, especially the .45 ACP 625 and the 610, are very accurate.

3" 65

I got a 3" 65 last week and love it- my only complaint with it is the front site is a little hard to pick up. has anyone milled off the sight and replaced it with anything else? if so, i would love to hear about it!....thanks, Jordan:)

You can have the original front sight dovetailed, and have a colored insert installed. I know S&W does this.

Model 65s...

Here is a pic of my pair of 3" Model 65s. The bottom one is modified to DAO.

Orange Construction marker paint in the grooves and clear fingernail polish to keep it on.
