3 day wait... (Florida)

I quit smoking 2 weeks ago. Today is turning out to be a really really bad day. And the longer the day goes, the worse its getting.

This is super!!!!!!!!! Best thing you could have done for yourself as YOU well know after jogging and being able to breath. I quit Dec.04 and its all up stairs now. Physical part is beat now its all mental. Stay with it, I'm glad I did. More money for ammo and guns for the collection and to think what and how many of each 21K would have bought.
As far as carrying, better to have it and NOT need it than to need it and NOT have it.

PS. sorry for any aggravation I may have caused. Like I said, yesterday was a bad day for me. I suffer from anxiety and this is driving me NUTS lol.

No apology needed. Some of us "me" included get our panties waded up from time to time when responding to statements or questions which puts on the face of having a attitude which was not the intention.

And for the guys in Florida who only wait 72 hours from the time of purchase...

72 hours is 3 days. Theoretically if a gun is purchased monday at 10 am then the customer is technically elligible on thursday after 10am. So long as no legal holidays fell between.

To avoid accidental violations of the law we make our customers wait a full three days between purchase and possesion.

Funny thing is ask three different ATF agents and get three different answers.

Back in the early '90s I was living in Miami. An LEO friend of mine said,"Jim, I want to see you packing." He was also the guy who turned me on to Glocks but that is another story. He bugged me to get the ccw license until I finally did.

Now I've been living in WPB for the past 16 years and I carry at all times. It is like a parachute. You may never need it but if you need it and don't have it you'll never need it again. Send in the paperwork.

Congratulations on quitting smoking. I quit cigarettes after 36 years 10 years ago but chain smoke tobacco pipes since. I don't inhale and I am active, riding on and off road bicycles regularly, but I want to quit all tobacco. Just don't want to bad enough apparently.

Thanks. I've felt much better since I've quit smoking. But my mind and body still have to relearn how to deal with stress. Something big happens and its the first thing I wanna do. Go smoke. But thats just the habit of going outside to smoke. Thats what I've done for the last 16 years when something stressful happens.

But I'm done with nicotine and I couldn't be happier.

Now, as far as LEO's having to wait just the same...thats a bit jaded. You guys put your necks out there and for that I think you should have the privilege of not waiting. From what I've been told by other LEOs is that they can carry anywhere while off duty. Be it a trip to the mall or a vacation to another state. Oh, and while I have a couple of you guys in here...How would I go about informing a sheriff deputy that he is wrong about something? Just in case he were to 'catch me in the in act'? Not really that important, but just something for feature reference. You can PM me on this.

Arguing with LE about gun violations will most probably not have a satisfactory result for you. Try this web site, http://www.floridafirearmslaw.com/

Written by a FLA lawyer his book is a must. He covers 99.9% of the stuff that has happened and also lists some of the untested waters. It truly is a worth while investment. The best part is IT"S NOT INTERNET GIBBERISH its facts from a practicing lawyer who specializes in FIREARM LAW

haha I've actually emailed the author. As it turns out, the deputy in question, was wrong. This guy told me to contact his supervisor and get things straighten out before something goes really wrong.

Wow, I thought Florida was supposed to be a firearms friendly state. Here in the " Show-Me" state they did away with the permit to acquire law a few years ago. It's show the dealer the money, fill out the 4473, he makes the NICS call, and out the door with your new pride and joy.:D
Now, if I could just figure out why my bank account keeps dwendling.

Depending on the person you're dealing with. I had one sheriff tell me "I keep my AR-15 ready to rock. You never know when that zombie invasions going to happen" and then I've had another pull his gun on me. They were down the way, heard gun shots, came over to 'investigate'

But as far as guying a gun, I now have a better understanding of what the '3 days wait' really means. I always thought the 3 day wait was from the time you signed and paid (lets say monday) You had to wait till wednesday to pick it up. I work with someone who bought a gun on a saturday, and picked it up wednesday. Thats where I was getting my views from...and my views were wrong lol

My FFL allows me to pu on the third day- 72 hours. Did the transfer on a new LC9 yesterday afternoon, and I can pick up Friday afternoon.

You guys are all so lucky and don't even realize that. Here in New York City not only you have to wait for about 6 months (and pay $600) to get a permit to have a handgun in your house (nobody gets a carry license unless they're LEOs) but when you do decide to get another handgun you have to do the following:

1. Send in a Authorization Request for another handgun. It has to be 30 days after you registered any of your existing guns.
2. The PD will send you a notification about 3 months later to come and pick up this Authorization in person at police headquarters within 30 days. They are usually late with their mailing so you will have 3-4 days to show up otherwise the process starts over. When you show up at the headquarters this is another crazy experience because you can end up waiting for 2hrs to be handed a piece of paper.
3. Now you have 30 days to buy an approved gun. If you don't then you better return that piece of paper back to headquarters or risk having your permit taken away.

Now that's crazy.... Total wait time to a acquire second handgun is 4 months +. Nevermind the fact that after you buy that handgun you have to again show up at the police headquarters with the gun for an "inspection" within 72hrs of the purchase. How can anybody with a full time job keep that kind of a schedule? Oh and keep in mind that most of these activities have to take place between 12pm and 2pm Mon-Thurs... no earlier, no later...

Needless to say not many citizens own guns in NYC.

Three days between the purchase date and the delivery date. Meaning, not including...

The statute as you quoted it does NOT say "purchase date," only "purchase." As one of the other posters pointed out I would assume that means 72 hours between the actual time you made the purchase to the time you pick it up. Personally, I think someone should challenge this and get a clear ruling on the actual meaning of it.

If it was determined to mean, as the statute is worded, that 72 hours must elapse between the actual purchase and pickup, then you could theoretically get a court order and make a dealer give you the gun after the "three day" (72 hour) period had elapsed.

Regardless, I lived in Florida from 1953 to 1989, when I was lucky enough to escape. During that time, concealed permits were issued individually by each of the 67 counties (and valid only in the county issued), and I was "privileged" to see Dade County enact a mandatory three day wait long before anyone else thought of it, plus a report of all handgun sales to Metro Dade. Anyone who wanted a CCW in Dade County was basically SOL unless you "knew somebody."

Oh, and correct me if I'm wrong...but can't you ONLY have 5 rounds in the gun at anytime?

The handgun is limited to a 10 round mag as per NYS, the rifle/shotgun is limited to 5 rounds as per NYC.

And as far as moving -- the NYC offers a lot more than just oppressive gun laws and this is my home, I don't want to move. Well maybe after I will retire I will move somewhere warmer...

Damn, out here in AZ all we have to put up with is the heat. I could purchase anything that strikes my fancy and take it home in about 10 minutes.(as long as the money holds out)

I had a different thread on this subject a few months back.
"Purchase" is a term that is subject to interpretation...

My "purchases" are made online- not a deposit, 100% paid in full.
My FFL sez that his transfer fee is part of the "purchase" and the clock starts ticking at time of transfer and payment of his fee.

Just took our CCW class and the apps are going in the mail so it's soon to be a moot point...

I see. I can understand not wanting to leave your home. I wouldn't mind being back home myself. One day.

First, congratulations on quitting smoking. Did it myself years ago, it's tough.

I recently got an AK knockoff (I guess they pretty much all are, anymore, for

less than @3500$), and when I showed my CWP, the dealer reminded me I didn't

need it, since it was a rifle purchase.

That got me thinking-"So I need a CWP, or a 3-day wait to buy a revolver,

but to buy and take home an AK47 the same day just takes a driver's

license. Go figure."

WOW!!! And I thought Hawaii was bad!!

Think of it like this. I averaged $3.55 a pack, that rounds out to be about $21K over my 16 years. And I went for a jog last night and I was able to breath!!

Here, a pack of Marlboro Reds will run $7-$10/pack!!
