3 day wait... (Florida)

So, I bought a handgun last friday. I didn't know that weekends didn't count towards my 3 days. That sucks, but on well. Now, my question is...when can I get the gun? Today? Which is the third day according to the 4473 form (signed 3-25-11) or is it the day AFTER three full days?

PS
The anxiety is killing me. This is my first handgun if you can't tell.

I don't know...but if you had a CCW license (like me) you could pick the gun up the same day you buy it. Look into it.

I know...I know. I took the class and I've just not had the motivation to send in the paper work. I might send it in now, but I've had no real need to carry. And believe me, I can think of reasons to carry.

With taking the above statement for face value why the rush and all the anxiety over the gun?

Call the dealer and they should tell you if you can pick up your gun.

If you can think of reasons to carry, BUT have no reason to how can you think of reason to carry.

I'm sooooo confused:eek:

Its my first handgun, I'm just excited. I'm the same way with everything else I get. I really really wanna shoot it. I'm not one of those people that has a gun and then never uses it. I know people who've had 'self defense' guns for years..but have less than 100 rounds through them.

I have 2 other guns. My rifle is 4 months old and it has 1400+ rounds through it. My shotgun is 3 months old and it has close to 400 rounds through it. I like to shoot because its fun and challenging. I've been kicking around the idea of getting a hand gun for a little while, but only just got serious about it. This opportunity came up and I jumped on it. If i had known 10 months ago when I took my ccw class that this would have happened...I would have sent the paper work off way back when.

I did stop by gander and asked. They said thursday...they didn't count the day I signed/payed for it...So by my count that makes 5 days. I would really like some facts on this, not just an opinion.

I drive through the an actual getto to get to office. My job is 'downtown'. There is a halfway house 1 block north of my office and labor finders is a block south, the salvation army is a block east and finally a train station to the west. I can think of 12 million reasons why I should carry...But if I'm going to get buttrapped in the bathroom, theres nothing anyone or anything can do to stop it.

Some times I get to 'work late'. That means I'll either leave the office anytime between 7:00pm that night or 5:00pm...the next day. Spending the night in an area with that many vagrants, bums, dealers, pimps can be a little unsettling. But I've never had a problem with anyone. I keep quiet and only go outside when I need to. And I park close to the door. The only time I get really scarred is when I'm driving down hwy 40 after dark. But at that point I'm in my 4000lb truck.

Well, you know what. Forget it. I'm just going to carry all the time. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I kinda feel like a retard for even mentioning that. I'm going to leave everything up there just as a reminder to myself. Thanks man! Its always nice to have someone kick you in the pants and say "Dubya tee eff...? get your head together man"

PS

I quit smoking 2 weeks ago. Today is turning out to be a really really bad day. And the longer the day goes, the worse its getting.

It could be worse and has.
Back when the Brady waiting period was in effect, the required five day wait, not counting weekends and holidays, could turn into more like two weeks sometimes.

Yeah, I hear ya man. I just think its BS when it comes to having to wait based on someones opinion. Thats the kicker.

If you paid for it Friday you can pick it up Thursday. Thats how we do it. Some may allow pickup after 72 hours but we don't want any liability and count three days excluding weekends and holidays.

Bought friday.....sat sun don't count.....Monday #1.....Tuesday #2......Wednesday #3........Thursday she's yours enjoy.

Now if you have a concealed weapon permit you are exempt from the wait.

Try living in NJ. We can only buy one handgun every 30 days. We can't carry, well, 99.99% of us can't. I can't tell you how long it takes to pick out a gun, pay for it, and then actually get it since I am just beginning the 2nd month of getting my FID and some pistol purchase permits, yeah, most of the country doesn't have to get a permit to purchase a pistol...........

When I can finally try to buy a gun I'll let you know about the process here. Be glad you only have to wait for a whopping 5 days at worst-case.

Threegun, can I take it you work for gander?

I'm not bitching about waiting. I know I could have gotten my ccw and we'd not be having this discussion. However, there is a small issue here.

I have a rifle and a shotgun. My wife if 100% ok with them. In fact, she enjoys shooting with me very much. BUT...when she was 19 she was a manager of a Checkers and one night as she was getting ready to close up for the night, a man stuck a gun in her face and placed his order. So while she had shot a few hand guns, she is still a little bit nervous around them. Hence why she and I have NOT sent in our paper work for the CCW.

I just happen to find a Glock 26 at a fairly decent price. So I went ahead and got it. I don't plan on carrying it with me all the time because I know that she is still trying to warm up to the idea of having one around the house...

But that being said. I'm a Man-Child. I have no biological siblings, my father died before I was born. I was raised by my grand parents who taught me the values that they grew up on (Read: values from the 20's and 30's). I just want to know what I should believe. I've heard, from what I can gather, two different opinions. I would just love to read "72 hours from the time you sign/pay" But I would also be ok with "Three, full, uninterrupted, business, days."

Because frankly, I've been told both by two people who make you feel like a piece of crap for bothering them at work.

I know the feeling

I have a carry permit in the state of washington allowing me to bypass a 7 day waiting period. But yesterday I bought a Ruger LC9 that is only available by order. All the gun shops have one but wont sell it, and ruger has not made it available for stock to the dealers as of yet. So I wait impatiently, and hope that call comes in tomorrow that my firearm has arrived. GRRR

This is direct from the Florida Statutes...

790.0655 Purchase and delivery of handguns; mandatory waiting period; exceptions; penalties.—(1)(a) There shall be a mandatory 3-day waiting period, which shall be 3 days, excluding weekends and legal holidays, between the purchase and the delivery at retail of any handgun.

Three days between the purchase date and the delivery date. Meaning, not including...

Also...

(2) The 3-day waiting period shall not apply in the following circumstances:
(a) When a handgun is being purchased by a holder of a concealed weapons permit as defined in s. 790.06.
(b) To a trade-in of another handgun.

And for the guys in Florida who only wait 72 hours from the time of purchase...

(3) It is a felony of the third degree...For any retailer, or any employee or agent of a retailer, to deliver a handgun before the expiration of the 3-day waiting period, subject to the exceptions provided in subsection (2).

Dr_Rich ....

Where in Florida are you located?

Congrats on your purchase and good luck on your quitting smoking... I have not had a cigarette since St. Patrick's Day.... I am done smoking too.

Ocala. Thanks, and congrats to you too!! Its been surprisingly easy for me to quite. I smoked for about 16 years. Stick with it. Everyday it becomes easier and easier. Some days will be more of a challenge than others. But keep some gum or hard candies around.

Think of it like this. I averaged $3.55 a pack, that rounds out to be about $21K over my 16 years. And I went for a jog last night and I was able to breath!!

I would hate to live in PBC. Nice clubs and beaches...but no place to for a gun enthusiast.

Thanks goofy. I'd read that 30 times or so. But I've also keep finding where people said the clock started from the time you Paid in full for the gun, and or when you filled out the 4473 form.

So either way. I'll pick it up tomorrow!! Sooo excited!!

PS. sorry for any aggravation I may have caused. Like I said, yesterday was a bad day for me. I suffer from anxiety and this is driving me NUTS lol.

Send in your paperwork. I understand your wife might be a little timid working out her gun issues, but even if you don't plan on carrying, at least you'll have your CCW if you need too. Additionally, the more people that have their licenses, the more ground we might make up. Constitutional carry is advancing in a lot of states and despite their best efforts, pro-gun efforts seem to gathering steam.

The sad thing is, I feel your pain...and I'm full-time LE. Where I live, CCW license folks do not have to buy a permit to purchase a handgun. However, anyone else [including LEOs] has to do so. Now, I'm not saying we deserve special treatment here, but we all had an extensive background check before we got hired by our departments. So, our state legislature is effectively telling us that they don't have the same amount of trust in us as they do CCW folks.
