Any gun bans won't happen until 08 at the earliest. Though if the the Dems try a gun ban it would doom them for president in 08.
I wouldn't be so sure of that. With the recent school shootings across the country, they have a good deal of support from the sheeple. And Bush seems inclined to sign anything that lands on his desk.
- Complete semi-auto ban across the board for all long guns..
I wouldn't worry about that just yet. But soon.
- Full handgun registration, with renewal and recertification every <= 3 years..
Again, not for awhile. It is certainly the extremists goal, but I don't think the repusrcussions of the 1994 ban have been forgtotten.
- 1000 round ammo limitation, where every primer, bullet, or empty case individually counts as 1 round..
Possible, but I doubt it will go that extreme in the near future. But limiting purchases to no more than 1000 rounds
at a time is not unlikely. Trying to regulate reloading components is a logistical nightmare and handloaders make up a very small percentage of gun owners. I wouldn't worry about restrictions on handloading components.
Very possible. They did it with tobacco and gasoline.
- All newly manufactured handguns will have to have "smart weapon" tech, including the micro-imprint-on-the-case thing..
The technology is still in it's infancy. Colt has been working on it for over a decade and still isn't ready to release it. But I would not be surprised to see a mandate that all new firearms have an internal locking system.
- All newly manufactured ammo will have serial numbers in the bullets.
Again, a logistical nightmare. What are they gonna do about those who cast and swage their own bullets? More likely, every ammo purchase would be entered into a database.
What they will try is to ban what they consider "non-sporting" arms (ar's, ak's, etc). Guns that look "evil" to the average ignorant citizen. This is more plausiable because even a lot of the NRA lovin', gun-totin', hard core hunters in my area seem to think those things are not needed...
Unfortunately, this is probably the most likely scenario. I wouldn't be surprised if EBR's are completely banned in the next two years. However, some speculate that the ban would go retroactive, making current owners felons. I doubt that. They haven't even pulled that one off in commie-fornia. If it happens, it will be very much like the original '94 AWB-but without a sunset clause
The future of private firearms ownership does look bleak, but it is not as bad as some here believe. At least not yet.
