2a rights looking grim right about now.

Well Amy Klobachaur claims to be pro-gun but time will tell. I also doubt Bush would sign another AWB. He just said what he did to try and play both sides of the deck.

Any gun bans won't happen until 08 at the earliest. Though if the the Dems try a gun ban it would doom them for president in 08. There evil, not stupid. They won't try anthing until after they get a president in.

im of the feeling if they try an outright ban of any type of firearm they might just have a revolt on thier hands. They'll stick to making it so expensive no one can afford it. Just like it was in england before they banned them all together.

If only some folks could get worked up in a lather about the rest of the Bill of Rights as much as they do about the Second Amendment, you wouldn't need to fret and chew your nails right about now.

Personally, I'm starting to hold the opinion that those who don't zealously defend the entire Bill of Rights do not deserve to claim even part of it. That goes for both sides of the aisle.

I agree with silicon wolverine . They won't ban guns , they'll just make them too expensive for the average , law abiding , taxpayer to own . In MA. some of the polititions tryed to get a law on the books that would force gun owners to take out a $20,000 insurance policy on each gun they own . :barf:

Lets see what shakes out in the House. Are the new incoming democrats centrists or liberals? Some of the vote tallies I saw were still pretty close. I have a feeling that Mrs. Pelosi may feel she has carte blanche now. She needs to take a look at the Bush administration who felt they had carte blanche. While Mrs Pelosi and some of the democrats bread and butter is gun contol locally for them the national picture is different. The people want the Democrats to concentrate on what they see as violations of other amendments on the Bill of Rights as a priority. So while the 2nd may take some flack the Democrats have bigger fish to fry if they want to keep the steam up for 2008.

What the hell is a rocket surgeon

I would bet it is a cross between a rocket scientist and a brain surgeon. It's like saying "take luck" because you started to say "take care" and in mid phrase your brain decided to say "good luck" instead. Happens all the time. Or maybe I'm the only one, I don't know.

Scary times for gun owners comming up. I agree that we can GUESS that some bans or ridiculous taxation will come about but again it's only a guess. Time will tell. If Hillary gets in the pilot seat in '08 look out.

ANy attempt to ban guns in this country would probably re-define the words negative turnout

West Virginia (the state next door to me and the site of my employment) basically went for Bush because of this and it is a HEAVILY democratic state.

What they will try is to ban what they consider "non-sporting" arms (ar's, ak's, etc). Guns that look "evil" to the average ignorant citizen. This is more plausiable because even a lot of the NRA lovin', gun-totin', hard core hunters in my area seem to think those things are not needed...

I also see mag restrictions put back into place.

There is a much simpler way to pass gun control and that is by taxing guns( new and existing), ammunition and components (powder, magazines, bullets, primers) at exorbitant levels. No fuss or massive lobbying by progun groups as it would all fit nicely under regulation of commerce, not the 2A. The taxes could be 2-3 times or more the retail value of the item. Call it a federal luxurary tax and exempt law enforcement agencies from the tax but not individual LEs who would have to receive all weapons they use from their agency or by retail and pay the tax.:( However, like most gun control efforts, the criminals will beg, borrow or steal what they need to have fire power. As usual, the good citizen will pay for the stupidity of gun control.

Try living in New York. It is hard enough to get Republicans in office in this state but add in the disasterous performance of the last couple years and it led to a sweep for the Dems across the state. I don't know yet if our state legislature completely flipped as well but if it did every gun owner in NY is completely hosed.

Personally I thank GWB and Rove. Hatred of them even got our state comptroller re-elected after he had been abondonned by his own Democratic party leadership for Cooruption.

the corrupt neocons have been sh**ing on the constitution for years. they deserve to have lost. relax guys, us liberals(yes some of us like to shoot) figured out in 04 that theres more of you than us, your guns are safe.

We shall see... Personally I believe that the Dems will not come near gun control issues at least for the next two years. Many of the new Dems are "Conservative" and got votes because the people were fed up with Bush, not because people agree with the Leftist bent of the Dem leadership.

The vote was anti Bush not pro Democratic. The border/illegal issues, the rights violations and the popular conception that the "War" in Iraq is being mis managed doomed the Republicans.

And too many problems with corruption in the "R" ranks.

Best we can hope for is Gridlock.

Any gun bans won't happen until 08 at the earliest. Though if the the Dems try a gun ban it would doom them for president in 08.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. With the recent school shootings across the country, they have a good deal of support from the sheeple. And Bush seems inclined to sign anything that lands on his desk.

- Complete semi-auto ban across the board for all long guns..

I wouldn't worry about that just yet. But soon.

- Full handgun registration, with renewal and recertification every <= 3 years..

Again, not for awhile. It is certainly the extremists goal, but I don't think the repusrcussions of the 1994 ban have been forgtotten.

- 1000 round ammo limitation, where every primer, bullet, or empty case individually counts as 1 round..

Possible, but I doubt it will go that extreme in the near future. But limiting purchases to no more than 1000 rounds at a time is not unlikely. Trying to regulate reloading components is a logistical nightmare and handloaders make up a very small percentage of gun owners. I wouldn't worry about restrictions on handloading components.

- Stiff ammo tax..

Very possible. They did it with tobacco and gasoline.

- All newly manufactured handguns will have to have "smart weapon" tech, including the micro-imprint-on-the-case thing..

The technology is still in it's infancy. Colt has been working on it for over a decade and still isn't ready to release it. But I would not be surprised to see a mandate that all new firearms have an internal locking system.

- All newly manufactured ammo will have serial numbers in the bullets.

Again, a logistical nightmare. What are they gonna do about those who cast and swage their own bullets? More likely, every ammo purchase would be entered into a database.

Unfortunately, this is probably the most likely scenario. I wouldn't be surprised if EBR's are completely banned in the next two years. However, some speculate that the ban would go retroactive, making current owners felons. I doubt that. They haven't even pulled that one off in commie-fornia. If it happens, it will be very much like the original '94 AWB-but without a sunset clause:eek:

The future of private firearms ownership does look bleak, but it is not as bad as some here believe. At least not yet.:(

Good Night for Gun Control Advocates

Good Night for Gun Control Advocates

(CNSNews.com) - The nation's leading gun control group called Tuesday "a very good night for all of us who want to do something to reduce gun violence in America." The National Rifle Association, which warned voters that their Second Amendment rights "hang in the balance" on Nov. 7, had no immediate comment on the election results. Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, noted that in key races throughout the nation, "more and more supporters of sensible gun laws" were winning. The Brady Campaign was particularly pleased that voters in Maryland chose Democrats Ben Cardin for the U.S. Senate and Martin O'Malley for governor - rejecting candidates endorsed by the National Rifle Association. In Minnesota, Rep. Mark Kennedy, the Republican endorsed by the NRA, lost to Amy Klobuchar, whom the Brady Campaign described as a "moderate" on gun issues. Gun control advocates winning re-election included Sens. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan and Herb Kohl of Wisconsin; Govs. Jim Doyle of Wisconsin, Rod Blagojevich of Illinois, Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania, Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas and Janet Napolitano of Arizona, all of whom have "stood up to the gun lobby," Helmke said. And the Brady Campaign expressed delight that voters in New York elected Democrat Elliott Spitzer as governor, while voters in Massachusetts elected Democrat Deval Patrick as governor.

We don't have 2 years, we have 2 months...stock up now before the prices soar...start with semis, handguns, ammo, mags. Those who think it 'won't happen' haven't been listening. And don't pay attention to their "lobbiests" and the weight THEY have. It happened under Clinton when that lying propaganda machine was in full swing, and it will restart now that the forced-break the Repubs gave us is over. There are pages and pages of anti-gun bills in the congress every year. MAYBE we are one school shooting or similiar incident away from losing eveything gained the last 6 years, but I'm not counting on even that reprieve.

I'm in NY, so I get a double dose of hell to look forward to...that move to LV is looking pretty good about now.

The people want the Democrats to concentrate on what they see as violations of other amendments on the Bill of Rights as a priority.

... and at least one of them is writing to Bill Nelson asking him to tell her so.

Bush said he'd sign it - knowing that Tom Delay had told him there was no way it would ever get to his desk. They aren't going to do anything with anti-gun legilation before 2008, after that all bets are off.
