22lr Remington Thunderbolt

I think the Remington Thunderbolt and Federal Lightning were around when I had a Remington Nylon 66 rifle during the 70s. The rifle was good while the ammo was unreliable. Or I can be mistaken, the FL was unreliable. I have always disliked Remington ammo.

Funny thing is CDNN is selling bricks of Thunderbolt for $49.88 and Golden for $54.88 a brick. Pretty much right in line with your stated price point.

Maybe that's why they have it in stock.
That's what I paid for the last brick of Wolf MT I was able to find.

Five shot group @ fifty yards and not a single ftf, ever!

I heard from Ruger on my 22/45. He said the barrell was leaded badly and what I thought was crown damage was actually leading coming out of the barrel.

He suggested that copper plated ammo is best and is recommended. States that Thunderbolts are very bad regards leading, which I found out the hard way. Advised If I want to shoot up what TB's I have to only shoot about 50 or less then follow up with copper plated which would help clean the barrel, and of course to clean the gun after shooting.
He recommended M Pro 7 bore gel for cleaning.

As has been said, depends on age. The older T-bolts were good, as far as dependability goes, not too accurate, though. All mine have fired and have been consistent, yet certainly not match ammo. But, none of it has been manufactured after 1990 or so. I've never bought any newer stuff, except Rem GBs, Federal 550s, Winchester bulk. Best all-around of those, for me, has been Win. Federal brown box 550s were the worst and gave me just short of stuck squibs on the order of 15% or so. Rem GBs were nearly as good as Win.

Inversely my Brownings chow on federal brown box (Is this the Walmart Federal?) but the new Winchester 555s are unshootable.

Agreed on golden bullet.

B.L.E., I know you didn't buy that SK / Wolf recently... It hasn't been $50.00 for a while. Just like my brick of Golden Solids that have the $12.97 price tag on them.

The last brick I bought was in 2012 shortly after the Sandy Hook shooting.
That wasn't that long ago.
I haven't seen it since, even though CCI and Remington ammo is starting to be routinely in stock. The Buda TX Cabelas did get in some SK .22 ammo recently but at a somewhat higher price. I can't remember what it was, I didn't buy any but just noticed it was in stock.
Maybe things are starting to return to normal again.

2 1/2 years is not recently. That was right before this shortage hit. Try to find anything @ 50 per brick.......we are just now starting to see "plinking ammo" show up at any regularity and it is still way overpriced. Maybe after the 2016 election we will see some semblance of normalicy return to the market.

I always disliked Golden Bullets because they were absolutely the filthiest stuff I ever fired. Didn't stop me from buying them if that was all that was available at the time. Just had to clean a little.more often.

It's not super accurate, but it functions in my lever actions. It works for plinking steel, but I'd prefer to use other stuff in semi autos.

I like the Remington Gold Bullet and the CCI Mini Mag , I buy both in hollow points for hunting . They are accurate enough and when you hit small game it will be there not crawling off to die later . I have'nt noticed that either dirty a firearm more than other rim fire ammo .
