22lr Remington Thunderbolt

Target Ammo they are not, dirty yes they are, a few duds also yes. However my rifles have done quite well shooting them. More than accurate enough for general duty and none have bounced off a squirrels head yet. Wish I had several bricks of them right now.

They are the only ammo that did not always have enough energy to cycle my little semi-auto pistol. I could shoot it and occasionally it would just go click. When I ejected the shell, it had already been fired. Ii shot a couple of thousand golden bullets and federal bulk and it never happened with them. They shot OK in my revolver but some were clearly more powerful than others.

Once upon a time Thunderbolt was decent plinking ammo. I have about 300 rounds left from a lot made in 1997 that was pretty good.

I have 4 bulk packs out of 2 cases left of some Golden HP that I bought in 2006...every box has FTF, FTF, weak report, etc. I would bring boxes to group trips and let everyone use mine up instead of using theirs. Got to the point freinds only let their kids use it for blasting ammo. Ironically the first case was good ammo..and they were all from the same lot.

Remington QC has had its ups and downs, and since around 2003 / 2004 it has been pretty much DOWN. It will be quite a while before I buy that stuff to try again. And I can't see paying $50-60 for a bulk pack of that garbage when I can spend $70 and get club / low end match grade.

I only use them when I want a friend to feel like I am being generous at the range...and I share a box of remington thunderbolts with them...LOL

They are awful compared to so many other ammos, but they do go bang most of the time...sorta...

CCI Mini-Mags are openly sitting on the shelves here in Houston. We literally just pulled the trigger until we used up the last 525 round box of Gold Bullet crap just to get rid of it.

Many FTF . . .

I've had an FTF rate with remington 22r ammo that at times was up to ten percent. There is some supposedly "new and improved" rem 22lr but I haven't had much experience with it.

“I too suggest anyone that refuses to shoot their thunderbolts send them to me. I will make this sacrifice.”

Smoke & recoil:
“Hey, we have an auction going on now I hope...I want in and I have
lot's of bullet money to spend.”
No gazumping I have first dibs ya bums!:D

Wogpotter, there is no reason to be greedy. After you get say 10K rounds or so sent to you, let a few of the rest of us have some too. I would LOVE to see some on the shelves here. All I have been able to find are some Aguila low velocity ammo.

Outside of very limited hunting applications, isn't that what all .22lr are?

The alternatives are very expensive (per round) Eley type target competition rounds, and more expensive hunting rounds.

I would not take any Thunderbolt ammo...even if it was given to me for free.

Actually, I did receive some for free a while back. Someone left most of a brick of Thunderbolts at the range with a note saying it was free for the taking, so I pulled out a couple of boxes and proceeded to shoot them in my Ruger Mk II. After about the tenth failure to feed, I got fed up and left them for the next sucker.

I have never had any luck with Remington Thunder Bolt .22 ammo. I’ve tried the stuff numerous times over many years, no luck. On the other hand, I don’t remember the last time I’ve had a dud or failure to eject while using anything made by CCI. From their low end Blazer to high end Green Tag, very very few problems with CCI.

Thunderbolts are certainly not my first choice. ;) I have always kept some around. I probably have a couple thousand rounds at the moment. Have never had the case splitting problem, but tomorrow it may happen to me.

I believe all of my thunderbolts are over 10 years old. Have not bought any in ages.

Good plinking ammo . I prefer Rem gold bullet hp and CCI mini mag hp for hunting . I hav'nt seen any rim fire ammo that is so good that I can call others crap . Its the nature of the .22 . I have never seen a split case from a .22 that wasnt caused buy the chamber .

I gave up on Thunderbolt when it became clear that two or three mags worth in my Ruger MkII so fouled the action that the there were failures to eject and feed, and the last shot bolt stop would not function. We used the remaining ammo in a pump and a bolt action. I have not bought any since. (A liberal flushing with CLP made the gun run for a time, but pity any in the spattter zone.)

Not only dud-prone, but also likes to hang up on the feed ramps on my CZ 452. Not sure why.

Oddly enough, when they do work, I've grouped them at about 1 1/2-2" groups at 50 yards, which is not entirely terrible for certain types of target shooting

I must live right. Thunderbolt has been dirty in either of my .22 pistols. And that's all. RGB has been good for me as well. In a bulk pack of 525 I'll have 5 or so duds. The world somehow keeps spinning...

I always wonder if this is a regional thing.
