It is surprising to see that Glock in not among the top three this time since they have a following that just wont consider any other pistol.

You should have put kel-tec up there. Its the smallest, thinnest, lightest 9mm pistol and it runs for 300-400 bucks. Perfect for cc.

I voted for taurus since keltec aint up there. IMO Taurus offers the best bang for the buck. They have top of the line pistols that cost much less than glock or colt, or XD but the guns are just as good.

IMI never gets any love... the Jericho 941 shoulda/woulda/coulda been a big hit if marketed properly. Now we're reduced to calling them Baby Desert Eagles:mad:. Yes, I have one and it's a fine shooting pistol if it is a remake of the CZ75 (CZs are awesome as well). Shoots way better than a glock.

Taurus has been named handgun of the year twice in the last five years,Ruger and Walther had to recall all of their new offerings. S&W's quality has gone downhill since the bean counters took over management. http://www.chuckhawks.com/smith-wesson_dark.htm Read what Chuck Hawks thinks about them now.Sig's new multicaliber would have been a good choice but they have some problems with this new offering.Almost all the other choices really don't have anything new out.The PT709 Slim is selling like pancakes, my choice!

I don't understand. The poll is named "2009 Best Handgun". The poll question is, "Which handgun (in your opinion) gets the 2009 handgun of the year award?". To me, this would mean "Which handgun released in 2009 is the overall best new handgun?". But the options are just manufacturers, some of which have not even released a new model handgun in 2009.

So do we vote for our favorite manufacturer, regardless of whether they released a new handgun model this year?

It's also one of several new guns from Ruger that put them firmly in the personal defense camp, including the LCP, SR9 and the new "sport utility rifle".
The SR-556 (along with the SR-22) won't be winning any beauty contests, but they're proof that Ruger has abandoned the curmudgeonly ways of its founders. The SR-556 brings a piston-driven AR to market at a reasonable price, which is something in and of itself.

As for the LCR...again, ugly as sin, but it's certainly a novel design. I've shot one, and it shoots as well as a well-worn S&W J-Frame, which is darned impressive. I've seen a couple with >1000 rounds through them, and they're holding up beautifully.

(Nice idea to ship all Single Six guns with .22 WMR conversion cylinders, too.)

Ruger's certainly going through a bit of a renaissance, and they've introduced some neat stuff, so my vote goes to them.

Other nods go to the S&W Night Guard series, and to Springfield's XD-M. Both are only incremental changes, but still quite welcome.

Even though I love my 45's . . . .I just bought a Kimber Ultra II CDP in 9mm and just love it !!!!! :D

since about 2 months left, Ruger seems like a winner to be. I am wondering who will be the runner up and the dead last loser?

I'm amazed...astounded... at the number of people who chime into this poll thread and crow about their 15 year old S&W wheelgun or Glock or other gun that WAS NOT INTRODUCED AS A NEW 2009 PRODUCT as best handgun or handgun manufacturer of the year (meaning 2009).

Folks, please nominate a manufacturer who released that particular model of gun IN 2009, and tell us why the gun or manufacturer is great for it.

Sheesh.

For everything from SD to range use, the new Springer XDm series has to be the winner ... my XDm-9 is light years ahead of my XD-40 (which I sold to buy the newer model) in feel, capacity and accuracy ... When you factor in 20 round capacity, it's a no-brainer ...

Well, three of my brands had good scores. Ruger, Springfield, and S&W.

Now if I could just figure out what that really means I will be in good shape.:D

Seeing how the RTF was released this year, and since it really isn't anything new...why would we vote for it??

Lmao, seriously though, that's why it shouldn;t be voted for. A new textured frame and different slide serrations doesn't a new gun make.

The Ruger LCR is clearly the handgun of the year. Then again, the XdM got gun of the year for a reshaped slide and longer grip to hold more ammo...hmmmm...maybe the RTF should be number 1.
