16 years old

I recently posted a thread of a 30-06 as my first rifle....Im 19yrs old..6'1" and 170lbs and 90 percent of the people who posted back told me not to get the 30-06 but mostly everybody is telling you that he will be fine.

I'm a bit confused here?? lol

if he shoots a 12ga fine he'll be alright with the 30-06 as for the guy that never shot a gun be for thats another matter u dont know about recoil and thats a diffnent matter

Honestly,
You might have a point....

You might not.

Im getting the 30-06 first, gonna fire it a few times...if its too much i'll buy a .22 for 200bucks and have both

.243 then......'06

The key point is that the kid WANTS to shoot it. I'd make sure he gets the concept of eye relief w/ the .243, and once comfortable, turn him loose w/ the '06. Odds are he'll be fine, 'cause he's got the desire.

But sensitivity to recoil is a personal thing. My boy, at age 15, can shoot the .270/130, but given a choice, he takes the .243 everytime. My Dad, who was a pretty stout customer; a known scrapper in the community, college football and two black belts in his adult years, did not shoot well 'cause he had a flinch which he did not realize. Dad bought a .243 in his 60's and started shooting and hitting better (w/ a rifle) than he ever had.

One thing I HATE is adults conning or pushing novices into shooting 12 ga, '06 etc, and you see that crap all the time. But this boy wants to try it and I'd let him, once he did the .243 well.

yes yes and after the 06 he'll want a mag of some sorts thats the way it goes but its best to learn with the smaller cals. just to get the basics down thats all im saying

As long as he keeps his eye 3-4" away from the scope with the butt of the rifle tight up against his shoulder, he should be OK ..... check him out before he fires.
