1100 question

Don't know for sure, but since the mag tubes are probably different diameters, most likely not.
Check the usual sources for the part numbers.

Short answer is no. Even if it is an older 20 on the 12 gauge receiver, the barrel will have big gaps on both sides.

I own a 20g 11-87, when I get the 1100 home tonight I will try swapping the stocks. Boyds has what I want, I plan on getting Mike Orlin to cut the barrel down to get rid of the Cutters Compensator chokes and put in screw in chokes.

the forend on my old rem 1100 20ga on the larger frame has a 12ga size magizine tube with a 20ga barrel channel. if their is enough wood i think you could take a newer 20ga forend and enlarge the magizine tube hole. if you have the newer 20 ren 1100 you should be able to get a forend to fit. eastbank.

Remington has nothing for the old standard size 20s, and likely no one left who remembers them. All 11-87 20 gauges are built on the 28 gauge size receiver. If you put an 1100 LT/LW 20 fore end on an 11-87 you will likely have to remove some wood from the inside front of the fore end for it to seat properly. If you put an 11-87 20 fore end on an 1100 LT/LW 20 you will likely need about a 3/16" spacer in front of the barrel gas ring so it pull the barrel up tight to the receiver. A slice of 1" PVC pipe works nicely.
Numrich shows they have a walnut Standard 20 fore end, and they show up on ebay and GunBroker occasionally. 11-87 and LT/LW fore ends are everywhere.
Is your 1100 an LT/LW or a Standard? If the serial number ends in X or N it's a standard frame. K or U and it's an LT/LW.

I got this gun tonight, $100

The stocks are good so this thread is mute but I'm not sure if I should keep the choke system or not. I got the box/wrench/and 3 of the chokes and the previous owner thinks he has the other 3. This is an "X" model so that makes it old and I think its on the standard frame.

Yep, that's a standard size 20. No extended slot on the receiver and no buffer inside either, but the X is the key. Matter of taste, but I hate those old Cutts style choke systems. They do work. I remember when they were all the rage on the Skeet fields. The internal choke tube systems pretty well killed off the old bulbous looking choke systems. If you decide to go shopping for a replacement barrel, get ready for sticker shock.

Yep, I looked at barrels and wow! I think Mike Orlin can finish off the end of this barrel, re-bead it and put the screw in chokes in it. My barrel will be around 26" instead of 28" so I'm torn as to what to do and if its worth it.

Its in better shape than I was told. It just needs some new O-rings and a good cleaning.

my 20ga 1100 x is the same shotgun as yours,it had a imp cyl. barrel on it and i sent the barrel to mike orlen and he threaded it for tubes, great job at a great price(75.00 including return postage). eastbank.
