"I prefer to shoot bullets out of platforms I get to choose, not guns I am cornered into buying for that bullet."
Well, what's not to like about the 10mm "platforms [you] get to choose" from among now?
Glock: 2 choices on this platform;
Tanfaglio Witness: 2 choices on this platform. This is, in a sense, the original platform for the 10mm anyway, i.e., the Witness is a CZ-clone, as was the Bren Ten. Hopefully, someday CZ will offer its 97B scaled-down to 10mm specs;
Pre-sellout Smith autoloaders in 10mm: at least 6 choices on this platform (i.e., 1006/1026, 1076/1066, 1086/1046, some still NIB - check out Gun List sometime);
Revolvers: Okay, admittedly slim on choices here, but the Smith 610 is still available, new & used in different barrel lengths;
1911-platform: the sky's the limit here. It really depends on what you want to spend. There's the Delta Elites, for starters, again some NIB or barely used, but if you can't find one, 1911-pistols in .40 Swishy-Walker can be readily converted to 10mm, as many .40 Kimbers have already done (see earlier posts). Dan Wesson is releasing its 1911 Pointman Major in 10mm this year. Or, Wilson, Heinie, STI, Novak, Dane Burns, Mark Morris, etc., can all build you a 10mm pistol on a 1911-platform, one for CCW/personal defensive or a "full-house" Space Gun. Again, it largely depends on the limits of your wallet.
The above 5 "platforms" cover a wide range of pistols, regardless of specific caliber.
If you really want something that goes "bang" in 10mm, you're hardly "cornered into buying" only a particular gun. And certainly no less than in any other caliber.
