before i spend my hard earned cash on a walther ppq m2 22lr, i'd like to get some honest opinions about the gun from people who own one. i'm looking to get the 4" barrel not the 5", thanks.

I can't help you with first hand knowledge but I am probably looking to get one too as it would make a lot of sense since I have a 9MM PPQ.

The reviews below may be helpful.

Some highlights:

"No zinc alloy here. The PPQ M2 .22’s slide is hard anodized, CNC machined aluminum. For long-term durability a steel breech block, containing the firing pin mechanism, extractor, breech face, etc is pinned into the slide. Another nice touch, although not unique to this pistol, is a steel pin inserted into the back of the slide lock notch. I smiled when I saw that, as it will prevent the steel slide stop from wearing away at and rounding out the notch."

"Suppressed or not, this pistol has been incredibly reliable. I’ve managed to run about 8 brands of ammo through it, from high velocity premium stuff to cheap, dirty bulk stuff, some with waxed lead bullets and some with jacketed round nose and jacketed hollow points, and the PPQ has cycled it all. Not a single failure of any sort since taking it out of the box when it was brand new."

If it's the same quality as my m&p 22 - which I assume it is since it's the same manufacturer - go for it.I

My m&p 22 has been 100% over several thousand rounds which is crazy for a 22. I'm very happy with it and sure you would be too.

I didn't even realize they were making a PPQ 22, that's awesome.

It's a great little gun and very accurate. Watch out with the CCI Stingers they are a little longer and can cause some feeding problems in some guns. The CCI Mini Mags run like a dream though! Enjoy!

the ppq is a sweet looking gun especially with the silencer on. when it comes to .22 ammo, i don't go for the expensive stuff. from what i read, it should be able to handle bulk ammo just fine which is a big selling point for me.

because the quality of bulk ammo varies quite a bit, i'm gonna expect some jams and it's probably not the fault of the gun

I'm sure it will run fine with bulk ammo. 95% of the ammo I've shot in my M&P 22 has been Remington or Winchester bulk.

The Ruger SR22 is also very good with bulk ammo.

Is this the Umarex one that is also sold by Sig? If so, I bought the Sig version a few months ago. It malfunctions a lot and I am not happy with it.

Here's a review of the PPQ 22.

Judging by the internals it looks to be basically identical on the inside to the M&P 22 which, as I said has been beautifully flawless over thousands of rounds.

If I had a still had a PPQ and wanted a cheap trainer, I wouldn't be concerned about getting this at all. That's exactly what I did with the M&P and it's been MUCH better than the 22 kit for the Sig P226.

Not sure why people are bashing everything Umarex. The P22's had a bunch of reliability issues and just generally junky feel to them. My M&P 22 is excellent, and by the looks of it, the PPQ 22 is as well.

being that the ppq 22lr is the .22 version of the full size ppq m2 which is a great gun, i would think that it's made by walther and not umarex.

like uncle_malice said, all the reviews i read have been positive so far. it's a new gun but i'm willing to take a chance on it. seeing how 'reliable' 22lr conversion kits are, i could do a lot worst than the ppq 22lr.

I think they deserve it.

It isn't easy to trust a company that put out products that had known issues as serious as P22 slides breaking in half and hitting shooters in the face, for over a decade, without doing anything to fix the issue, before finally discontinuing the P22 models that experienced the issue the most.

I wonder how many people would buy their products if they didn't slap the name "Walther" on the slide. The PK380 also had issues. The SP22 also had issues. The G22 also had issues. Whether the PPQ .22 is a higher quality pistol than almost all of the other "Walther" Umarex pistols, or not, is unknown to me. But they've earned their reputation.

On the P22 I agree. I've handled and shot a couple. They were garbage.

I don't know if they changed the way they do things across the board or if it's just a higher end line if guns, but like I said, the M&P 22 is a great gun. I love that it has identical ergonomics to my M&P 9 and 40. It was surprising and impressive that I have over 2k rounds through the gun without a single bobble of any kind. That's hard to do even on the best 22's.

They've earned their reputation with me as well. It's just a different reputation than some others seem to have.

I find that hard to believe. Thats impressive feat in a Centerfire gun not to mention a rimfire. 2000 flawless rimfire bullets? Where do you buy these things? Or do you simply mean it hasn't broken in 2000 rounds?

for a trainer Im sure the m&p22 is great but for its price there are better .22s out there for shooting. And given how lack luster their product history has been, it's hard to recommend them to someone else.

First off, 2k flawless rounds in a center fire is not that impressive. My MK25 is currently at over 5k rounds without a failure - the last 2500 have been without cleaning, just the occasional drop of oil on the rails.

Yes, I am well aware that it is impressive from a rim fire. That's exactly why brought it up. Over 1,500 of the rounds have been Remington golden bulk packs(3 x 555rd packs) and the rest has been a mixture of Winchester, federal, and CCI.

The most I've gotten out of my 22 kit for the Sig has been about 50 or 60 rounds.

These little "tactical" type 22 guns are really coming into their stride lately. A co-worker that I shoot with regularly has the Ruger SR22. His has also been 100%(according to him) although he only has about 900 rounds through his at this point. That's still impressive for a 22 in my experience.

Are they super accurate target match guns made to shoot the wings off a fly at 100 yards? No. But that's not their market either. No one is racing a Honda civic in the Indy 500 either.

I've been much more impressed by the m&p22 than I ever expected to be and I think the gun deserves a lot more respect than it receives. Similarly, by looking at the video, the PPQ 22 looks almost identical inside so i suspect it should be equally good.

Umarex purchased Walther in 1993.

The PPQ is made in the Walther plant in Ulm, Germany. The PPQ M2 .22 is made in the Umarex plant in Arnsberg, Germany.
