genuinejewell, I wasn't going to post...but
I had the opportunity this past weekend to be shooting at the range and a rather small lady was making her first visit to shoot with her male friend who had 2 pistols with him for her to try...a Beretta 92FS and a sw in 32 sw long.
The lady was a fellow engineer, and in good engineering fashion had brought her notebook and pen with her to detail any and all details as related to her shooting experience that day.
As usual, me and my friends had brought a few toys with and volunteered to let her shoot them all - to broaden her horizons, so to speak. She had a definite preference as far as accuracy and comfort. That was reached with a 9mm.
In addition to her friends toys, she shot a Gold Cup(.45), a Glock G30(45), a Glock G29(10mm), a Sig 228(9mm), a CZ75B(9mm), a Sig 229(40sw), and an HK P7M8.
Of all the guns she was most accurate with the P7M8. She loved the ergonomics and safety of the firearm as well. Believe me, I tried to steer her towards others, but she kept wanting to shoot the HK!
In private she told me that the P7M8 just felt right to her. I queried her on how she felt about the squeeze cock mechanism and she said the gun just felt natural to shoot. I was really shocked when she said that. It took a newbie to the firearms world to let a basic message set in. The darned gun is just a natural point and shoot type of firearm. After that, I shot the heck out of the P7 that day!
The lady also had the following critiques of the firearms she shot(I read her notes and I love all these firearms):
Beretta 92: Fun with the large mags, but too big and heavy
Glocks: Scary...too light
Gold Cup: Recoil too heavy and gun too heavy
Sig 228: Inaccurate
Sig 229: Inaccurate
CZ75B: Too big and heavy
HKP7M8: Perfect
I was surprised with the Sig interpretation. Also, what us gun monkeys consider perfect she did not(except for the P7M8).
