Your marksmanship/knowledge on a 1-10 scale

5

3-4

4-5

The first and last are BY FAR more important to me, hositry is interesting, but I'd MUCH rather be a great shot, JMO

Hmmmm. Self evaluation.
8, 8, 5.
I shoot a lot, read a lot, and do as much filing and polishing as I can. ;)

4...I'm alright with a rifle and pistol, nothing to brag about.

4...General knowledge of firearms, that's about it.

2...If you asked me to completely tear down my CZ 75BD, forget it!

Marksmanship:
5-7, depending on the relativity of the scale. I can consistantly outshoot most people I know, but that doesn't mean they are good shots either. I don't practice bullseye marksmanship, but prefer practical shooting. I am confident in getting consistant kill shots at most ranges under most conditions.

Knowledge of handguns:
4. I was a bit of a history buff growing up, so I know a fair bit about military and critical developmental firearms, but not so much that I am going on Jepardy.

Mechanical knowledge and abilities:
3. I can take my guns apart and could do minor repairs/modifications, but lack any experience to do the hard stuff. I am fairly mechanically inclined and understand the principles, but I don't know if thats enough to try some of the harder projects. In theory, I guess I am more of a 5.

I'd go with 5-4-4 for me (modestly). I've only been seriously into shooting for about 6 months. But I try to read alot and learn from others who know more than I.

I'm going to use a different measurement, and some other categories.

Claybirds,I miss a lot.
Pheasants and doves,I don't waste a lot of shells but I let some fly without shooting.I don't want to pull a Cheney and I don't like wounding birds.

Handgun,I'm older now,and not as good.Sometimes the sights disappear in the floating amoebas. In my 30's I shot some bullseye.Last league I was in,shot against some old guys with Camp Perry experience.Guys who shoot in the high 290's.They won.My wife and I and 2 friends took home 7 of 28 trophies.I have killed small and large game with an iron sighted conventional handgun.
I have gone to a few falling plate matches and cowboy shoots.I finish in the lower half.I could probably humbly learn a lot from youPPG,on shooting fast and close.

Rifle,I have a small amount of formal bullseye, mostly I have had wide open space and shot a lot.I like to shoot offhand,I have bad knees.
With a good rifle,a grapefruit at 400 yds is in trouble if I get real low.
I would humbly enjoy learning from Kragwy.

Gunsmithing,I don't usually buy a rifle.I have a vision of what the instrument should be,and I build it.I have made the safety linkage for a Franchi O/U shotgun out of a chunk of P-20 mold steel, and a few Win Hi-wall lower guard /tangs.Just for the heck of it,I made a sine plate and tail center to mount a spin jig on,hung a cup wheel on a bridgeport and ground my own 40-70 sharps chamber reamer as I wanted a non-standard neck config. It cut just fine.I understudied a master mold polisher and that is a bit advanced from what most smiths do.I have made stocks from boards, built flintlocks to AR's,and I would humbly enjoy learning from Longrifle. My old man split when I was 11,but as a junior high kid I knew how to behave in a gunshop well enough,an old master gunsmith named Claude put up with me hanging around his shop. And,there was Louis and his dear crazy wife! I also have a close friend who is also a life long gunny, and when we put our heads together,we can get about anything done.

I think a beginner with a fresh approach to something can teach me something,I'm willing to learn. I can learn teaching a beginner. My ego is not too in the way.I am not more or less than anyone else.

So long as we are all having fun, learning, and taking good care of the second ammendment, and being safe,it just doesn't matter much.

7 - I'm better than average, but not an expert. Basically I'm gifted in the focus and muscle memory departments and that helps.
3 - some of you guys amaze me with your knowledge
5 - I know my way around a machine shop, but my gunsmithing knowledge is limited to very specific models. Basically the ones I own that I've torn down and put back together.

PBP, I'm right there with you on the first two but for the gunsmithing question, I'm a two, three at best. For example, I can never get a mag back together right the first time.
