Your Favorite 38 Spl subbie?

My favorite would be the S&W 642. Light, but still pleasant to shoot even with +P loads, good-looking, and very easy to carry and conceal.

S&W Model 36. Stock, Sipowitz style. Loaded with Federal personal defense 110gr Hydrashoks (unless I can find a few boxes of Fed nyclad 125's).

Colt Commando. (I don't own one, but my aunt does.) I have only shot it a few times, so I can't recommend a load. I suspect that Turk is correct about the 110gr Winchester Silver Tips. I have tried that load, and it grouped very well. The Commando is a relatively large and heavy snub, which sort of defeats the purpose, but you will actually enjoy shooting it, which helps.

I am more of a pocket pistol kind of guy, but I thought I would mention the Commando, since it does shoot very well.

Seldom I ditto another post EXACTLY - - -

Old beat up Colt Agent, 158gr LSWCHP ammo.
That's not old and beat up, bro - - - Merely a "veteran" piece, showing operational experience.:p

Mine is same gun, same ammo--It wears a T-Grip adaptor and has the hammer bobbed. I have a Bianchi IWB holster something like yours, but prefer a DeSantis pocket holster. Otherwise, I could use your illlustration for my Agent.

I also like the S&W M37 Airweight Chief very much.

Best,
Johnny

Like most of you my snub is an S&W, and a vintage one at that: A dash-nothing high-polish Model 60. It usually wears an old set of Herrett's grips, and if it's not in a coat pocket, it's in a Bianchi thumbreak strongside holster or stashed in a fanny pack or in my wife's purse (when at home, it sleeps on her side of the bed and we call it 'her gun'.)
I favor momentum over velocity, so the punk gun usually is loaded with a SWC solid of 160 grains to near .357 pressures. The gun has tolerated this abuse for about 40 years now. Let's see one of your Tauri do that!

S&W 642 here, riding in a Kramer pocket holster. 158gr Nyclads provide the most punch from this great compact package.

Colt Det. Special bobbed hammer, dove tail front site with tritium insert, slicked action by C&S (about 9 pounds DA) 158+P Nyclads in Desantis pocket holster

Okay, I'll be the oddball. My favorite .38 snubby is The Wife's Rossi M88. At 15 yrds I can make cloverleaf patterns with my handrolled 148gr WC'd and it does almost as well with 125gr Nyclads. MOstly like it because it got The Wife into shooting.

My favorite snubby isn't a .38, but sometimes it eats .38's as a snack. I've only got 750 rds thru my Taurus 650, but we're starting to get really comfortable with each other.

Since wife claimed my Model 36 long ago as "hers", it's been an excuse to try several j-frame cousins - and a SP101, and a Rossi, and a Taurus ... 12-ounce S&W 340PD has become "always" gun, altho gonna lend it to friend tomorrow to try with ankle carry for a week. Am trying to get her to upgrade to S&W 342 instead of Beretta 21A mousegun of about the same weight. Very pleased with Crimson Trace overmoulded laser grips takeing much of the "bite" out of recoil. 340PD Typically carried with all 125g JHPs, 3 Gold Dots +P and 2 Federal .357 Classics.

Those are a couple pretty Colt snubs, I'd post a picture of my Fitz special 1917 45 ACP with 2 1/2 barrel but dont have digicam yet. This is definitely not my favorite snub as I hate the cut away front of triggergaurd. I have the Mod 36 S&W snub I snuk into and out of V.N. on first tour, retired now with honor ,for grand kids. I carry an Agent when I want to travel light(shorts ect) , a Para ordinace P13 with 2 reloads when in harms way(not often).:)

I carry a Smith 442. With a 158 hard cast round nose flat point and 5 gr. of AA#2 I can get 850 fps even from the 1-7/8" barrell.

I am comfortable with that, and the little gun conceales easily.
