I haven't been at it very long (just a couple months since I started learning to shoot) but the gun I settled on for an all-around first purchase (meaning I can use it for EDC, for home defense, for training, practice, plinking, etc.) was the XD Mod.2 in 9mm subcompact.
Same gun you're looking at, just with a more contoured grip. Springfield makes much of this "Grip Zone" and I will say it's more comfortable for me to hold than any other gun I've tried...it also isn't customizable so it may be coincidence that it fits MY hands perfectly.
I find it very easy to shoot, very easy to clean and take down, and it's only fractionally larger than most 3" single stacks but holds more ammo. I would recommend getting the "pinky extender" floor plate for the short mag--for me, it's just barely long enough to get a 3 finger grip, but I have to reseat my little finger after each shot. Wrapping my finger around the bottom is just uncomfortable.
For the one you posted, I can't see a reason not to get it. Try the Mod.2 to see if it feels any better in your hand, but if you can get a better deal on the XD, it really makes little difference. It seems to be a great gun so far. People I meet at ranges have had XD's for many years and have shot many thousands of rounds without any issues.
