your choice

If $$ was not an issue, what would you get?(it must be a 357 mag.)
Would your get a smith and wesson or a ruger and why? this is for Carry and HD
and the light weights are not in this discussion. We are looking for the best choice for a 3" 357/38sp. All comments are appreciated.

My choice? A 4" 686 pre-lock S&W. I've never warmed up to the Ruger GP, preferring the older Ruger Security Six. My two cents............

Ruger GP100 Match Champion in 4.2" configuration seems like an excellent option. A 3" version is available if you are strict on that 3" barrel requirement, although I've heard from many that a .357 ought to be a from a 4" barrel minimum to get the right performance. I love my two GP100s. I have a Match Champion and then also a regular GP100.

Not sure about the S&W options as I don't have one, I bet they are nice if you don't mind the lock or buy pre-lock on the secondhand market.

Doc, ya know my answer to that is two fold. My 3 1/2" M 27-2, needed to fill my ego. To carry, one of my three 2 1/2" M-19/66's. See I got my ego in with my second answer as well. I sent you photos, right?

Happy New Year!!!

3" is my favorite barrel length just for balance and feel. For carry I'd say a SP101 or perhaps a Model 60. For HD, GP100 has several models - 1751 fixed sight, 1708 adjustable (if you can find it still), even 1722 if you can find it and don't mind .38 only.

I've always liked the S&W 619,,,

I've always liked the S&W 619,,,
I like it even more that the adjustable sight 620.

But, many folk don't like the two-piece barrel,,,
And they are scarce as hens teeth.

I tried for years to find either one,,,
Not being fond of either the GP or SP Rugers,,,
I opted for a S&W 686 to get my Magnum Ya-Ya's on.

My experience is that J & K frame .357's are way too snappy for me.

The S&W Models 27 & 28 are simply too fat for my hands.

8 round Performance Center 627, 2.625" barrel. A little thicker than my 1911, but not quite as large, weighs about the same, 37oz. I do ccw this gun pending dress and weather.

Do over,? My S&w M-19 4",good for 2nd life.

The S&W's of the1940&50's actually got better as they were shot and cared for:eek:reser

I've already got a Model 28-2, but if I was going to buy another 357, and I might before long, it would be one of the "new" Model 66's.

I've got a 69, it's cousin, and I love it.

Doc, you really won't go wrong with a Smith or a Ruger. Smith builds really good revolvers. Rugers are less pretty and you can literally drive a car over them no problem. My choice would be a 686. I would suggest stainless steel. More weather resistant in a humid, sweaty climate.

Not a lightweight but it is a J frame, the Model 60 with 3" barrel and adjustable sights.
I still kick myself for buying the 2" model instead of the 3"

That would work well for carry, and home defense.

Probably not what you were thinking, but if it were me, I would go with the Ruger and it would be the New Vaquero with 4-5/8" barrel.
