I'm in the market for a new 45 and I think its between a Sig 220,a Glock 21,A Kimber Target,a Springfield Loaded or an HK USP...Out of the guns I've mentioned,I'm looking for the most accurate one since I'm not going to be carrying it....it's going to be used strictly for target work. What's your vote for a halfway decent 45.....any ideas or comments would be appreciated.....Thanks

I have played with each of the 45's you listed but ended up keeping only the Kimber Target and Sig220. Others were all good too (except Glock) but Didn't like them enough to keep them. If I had to narrow it to one it would be the Kimber.

I've owned a Kimber, Sig, H&K, and Glock.

Based on those, I'd have to go with the Glock 21.

Kimber or the Springfield. Shooting .45 out of anything other than a 1911 seems like a waste.

What do you want to do with it? The 1911 styles are best for target shooting, with the kimber's sights winning over the SAs, but the SA will be the better price. The Sig, Glock and HKs are best for combat sidearms. Glock has the most capacity. Sig barrel is set higher so you'll get more muzzle flip, whereas the Glock barrel is set very low and perceived recoil is less then all the others. HK has external safety, Sig and Glock do not. As a carry gun, the sig is slimer then the HK and Glock, and more compact then the 5" 1911s.

For carry: Glock 30. No other .45 beats it in its perfect balance of capacity, durability, size and weight.

For range and target work: SIG Sauer P220. The finest off-the-shelf DA .45 ever made.

If you want to get the most reliable firearm of the ones in your list, then you'll get the Glock 21.

But that's only if reliability is high on your criteria list.

Out of the guns I've mentioned,I guess I want the most accurate of the bunch,I'm not going to carry the gun so it will be used strictly for target work.....

Target? Kimber. No question.

On that note, I would suggest a Colt Gold Cup instead. You'll get as good or better quality and it will hold its value much better than the kimber.

BB, totally disagree. Have had both guns and the Kimber Gold Match is a MUCH nicer gun than the Gold Cup. Tighter, more accurate, better trigger and nowadays better value as well.
I also carry the Gold Match as my CCW gun, as it has yet to jam.

With the criteria listed below it would be the P220 or the Kimber Target.

The best weapon for self defense is the one you have when the need arises!

Have fired the Kimber, Springfield, and the HK all at the same session.

Hands down winner for accuracy, HK USP.

No doubts.

Take the long way home...

I shot all of the ones you mentioned before buying. For me the Glock 21 was most accurate. It may differ for others. So, try all of them out before buying.

P.S. As one other poster said...consider buying a Ruger P97 and save a couple hundred dollars. I have to say the Ruger is just as accurate and high quality as the other guns mentioned with the right ammo (I've shot them all and can comfortably make that statement). Again, try all models out before buying. Good luck :)

Vyper005,

Based strictly on your criteria -- target shooting only -- I would go with a Kimber.

In .45 ACP I own: (1) a stainless, full-size Kimber Custom/Classic 1911A1-type; (2) a pre-WWII Colt Government 1911A1; (3) a Sig P-220; and (4) an H&K USP .45 Tactical. While each has marginal advantages over the others, they are all really outstanding semiautomatics: excellent design and quality, very reliable and durable, and -- unfortunately -- lots more accurate than I'll ever be.

For precise target shooting, it's difficult to beat a Kimber without investing significantly in post-purchase enhancements. This said, both the Sig P-220 and the H&K USP are extremely accurate non-1911A1 designs.

We'll have to disagree. My 70 Series Gold Cup is a much higher quality pistol then my friends Kimber, and his Kimber has needed to go to the factory once already. We'll see which is worth more in 10 years.

If you are going strictly for target work, don't forget to look at the USP Expert. The long slide gives it a great balance and the match trigger is much improved over the regular USP. Accuracy-wise it beats all the others you mentioned.
