Since we have a thread on "goofiest pistol" - how about what handgun do you own that is out of the ordinary/a conversation-starter? Mine is my P7 - usually at the range there are several people that ooh and aah and say "hey, what is that?"

Usually my CZ 75BD.

"Wow, you're a really good shot!"

I ping a steel I-beam with it at 50 yards, nothing to write home about.

That would be my S&W 629. It typically grabs people's attention with it's size and loud noises. I love shooting it with moderate power .44 mags. It still makes the noise and still has a bit of a kick, but it's very manageable and very, very fun. It's the one gun that me, my father, and my brother always keep going back to.

I win.

With a properly discriminating crowd, it would be a 4" blue 38/44 Heavy Duty. Just to garner attention, it would be my repro .69 caliber giant flintlock pirate pistol. Aaargh.

THE BIGGEST CONVERSATION STARTER???
It would be the gun that I carry all the time in my underwear. Theres not a club, mall, or range I can't go to that some lady doesn't ohhhh and awwww over that gun. Last week, we had a gun show that was sponser by the Hooters girls, and they were really impressed with hidden underwear gun. Got some great pics.;)

custom made hearing protection...

I don't get a lot of comments or questions about it but I'd say my bright orange custom fit hearing/ear plugs.
I bought my polymer high tech plugs at a large gun show in Richmond VA around 1991/1992. :)
They are fit to my ears only and reduce loud noises about 39db.
A couple at the show made them in about 15min. I still own and use them today. The custom plugs helped protect my hearing while in the US Army and in other training areas.
I requested the orange color so range or safety officers wouldn't wig out or mess with me about ear muffs. Lol. ;)

My Freedom Arms 454 Casull Model 83 normally gets a comment or two, especially if if I'm actually shooting 454 Casull rounds rather than 45 Colt. I cannot claim, to be honest, that it helps me make time with the fairer sex, but then again, NUTH'N DOES!!!:confused::eek:

Its usually one of 3 pistols. My fully customised Norinco 1911, my series 70 with suppressor and my suppressed Ruger Mk2.

Unfortunately people at the range dont really recognise a Colt Python, T series or C series Belgian High Powers to make conversation.

Sad but true.

Colt and Smith & Wesson revolvers. In a land of look alike plastic "Wunderguns", blue steel and walnut allways stand out.

My 629,,,

I'm with Auto426 here,,,
Every time I drag out Jezebel,,,
People come to look at what just went BANG!

It's the handgun that sparks a lot of,,,
"I'll let you shoot mine if I can shoot yours." comments.

It helped me try a lot of different 9mm semi's,,,
When I was deciding on which wunder-9 to buy for myself.

I know a .44 Mag isn't anywhere near "the most powerful handgun in the world" anymore,,,
But it still attracts a lot of attention when I send a few rounds downrange,,,
Truth be told, it's probably why I haven't traded it off.

Sorry, you asked for handguns. My GSG-5 is the carbine model.

I guess my Redhawk .44magnum. Some people notice the noise when Inshoot at the indoor range.

My S&W 317 is the big attention-grabber. Every so often I'll run into somebody at the range who saw it and was suddenly interested in one for plinking, for a kit gun, or for their S.O. A few more ears perk up when I mention that S&W makes a version with a longer barrel and better sights.

I've had a few questions about the AR-7s when I take them shooting, too. It's amazing how many people don't know they exist. Almost nobody has ever asked to shoot them; they just want to see how they break down and fit into their own stocks. They seem to generate more curiosity than interest.

My S&W 32 usually starts a prety good chat. Its not weird or fancy its not all shinny but it is nice. It was handed down from my great grandfather. Made in 1923 and still fires great. It just catches fellow shooters eye. But I dont take it to the range often its expensive to shoot at $46 a box for rounds when I can even find them.

I kid, I kid. :D
