if you look right here into the " high end 1911 " thread you will see dan wesson , les baer , cabot & some others talked about in pretty good length .

was thinking of asking , what are some of you other folks have in a high $ 1911 you had thought about a lot and finally added to your arsenal ? !

lots of choices ! for me it was a s&w performance center bobtail 1911 45 , the one that has the porting & the dressy orange flavor grips .
caught my eye from day one ! wasn't particulary worried if id had mim parts , which i believe it has . most of the feed back on the pc guns was positive and i really liked the looks of the gun & always wanted a scanium framed gun ..... just to have one!
treated my self to a nice rig for it from elpaso saddlery leather. have only shot it sparingly but so far so good.
no , it is not in the same league as wilson combat , cabot , and some of the other super custom guns but it is a winner for me. i bought it brand new at around the tune of nearly $1400.
that IS high $ for me ..... i never believed i would spring for that kind of purchase in a gun !
have other less expensive 1911 's that get considerable more rounds fired thru them . after all i want to keep my s&w pc close to new so it will get far less use , but still be enjoyed from time to time !

About a year ago I broke down and purchased a Wilson Combat Commander sized Elite Professional. The gun has a black slide and a dark gray frame and I think the contrast looks great. The gun is very well put together I immediately noticed things like how easily the slide release slips in and out of the frame. The gun has proven to be totally reliable, accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. So, was it worth the money? Well, to me it was. However, I’m sure lots of folks will probably tell me it’s not, but hey if they want to fund my next purchase I’ll get their approval before hand.

My favorite is a Springfield TRP. It is a bit heavy but has a real nice trigger and once I got rid of the goofy take down ritual and replaced it with a Dawson tool less take down system, the gun is pretty near perfect. Second and third in line would be a Sig Nightmare and a Dan Wesson Valor.

This is going to sound stupid but since High Dollar is a relative term so be it.

I love my RIA 1911 base model. I bought it years ago to tweak and learn a bit about the 1911 so I would not mess up my Kimber Custom. Yeah after a complete disassembly and some self guided learning guess which gun goes to the range with me more than any other 1911? Yep the RIA.

Thing has been spot on reliable, can shoot far more accurately than I can, and more than suits my need for a fun range plinker. It's not the prettiest, but I never ever fear that she wont go bang wand she always puts rounds on target. In my mind that is worth a shiny slide or two any day of the week.

Mine's not big dollar gun, but it can't get any more personal choice than this. I had John Harrison of Harrison Custom rebuild this one for me about a dozen years ago for a reasonable cost and I love how it came out. It has a Sistema frame with a Colt slide, Novak sights, Kart National Match barrel with a very tight bushing. The hard chrome was done by Tripp Research. All the internals were replaced with high quality components and it has a really sweet trigger.

It's just a simple old school custom Government model that feels and shoots great. This 1911 and the M1 Garand that I had DGR rebuild are the pride of my collection. Both of those guys are artists.

I have a few. My favorite is a Kobra Carry Ed Brown. It just feels right in my hand. The trigger is excellent. I love the style.

Another vote for none.
Never saw the need to spend car money on any handgun.
They all shoot better than me.
But pride of ownership does count for something.
So, it's easy to see the attraction of a high end shootin' iron.
My pride comes from the shooting, not the owning, though.

A recently acquired Les Baer Premier II. Have sent 1,000 rounds down range and have not encountered any hiccups at all. This 1911 has proven to be both accurate and reliable. Needlessly to say, "I'm pleased with it."

Skip the problematic MIMber crap, along with the flippin' Flipeno junk. It's either a Colt or, maybe, a basic Springer GI model.

Regardless, if it ain't stamped with the Pony, it's just a big ol' cloney.

And run it hard, all day long ...

Colt M45A1.

You can thank me later ...

S&W 1911 SC-E bobtail. Had a couple issues at first with the slide stop/release pin, but once I replaced that with a WC, the gun has run perfectly, is far more accurate than I will ever be, and it's by far the best looking handgun I've ever owned. Think I paid about $1300.

I would love to have a Wilson Combat, but it's doubtful the boss would ever okay something like that. Or many of the guns already mentioned in this thread for that matter. Ah well, I can always dream . . .

I have since acquired 3 additional 1911s and one 2011, but my Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special is probably still my favorite. The other 1911s are Les Baer Monolith Heavyweight, Les Baer Concept V, and a Springfield Armory Loaded in 9mm. My STI Edge is also a great shooting gun, but it can be a bit finicky. I bought the Thunder Ranch Special used so it was probably well broken in. I'm sure the other ones will smooth out with more use.
