You won't believe what this bozo said

I was shopping at a chain sporting goods store the other day. I noticed a sale in the firarms section and naturally gravitated toward it. I asked to see a Remington 700 BDL 300 Win Mag. As I was calculating ways to transfer money from my wife's account to mine :) He leans over the counter and informs me:

"That's a great gun. In fact, it is ideal for home defense. It converts to a semi-auto assault rifle. I have one set up with a twenty round clip and one of these scopes (he gestures to a Leipold 3x9x40). Nobody better mess with me. Of course, you could hunt elephant with it too if you wanted."

I couldn't believe my ears. I finished looking the rifle over, handed it back, and asked to see a supervisor. I politely let him know what I thought of the quality of the salesman. I pointed out that considering our proximitly to Columbine HS, located 5 minutes away, that it would be bad PR for the store and the law abiding firearms communtiy if this idiot's sales pitch got out. Hopefully something will be done.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of bozos like that around. I also talk to the manager of the store when I deal with an idiot like that.

I didn't know that you could hunt elephants in Colorado.

300 WinMag for home defense? Maybe this guy has a really big house? Maybe the main hallway is 400 yards? :)

At least he didn't say it shoots 'Cop Killer' bullets.

"Wow, no kidding? Mind if I take it out to the Batmobile and show it to Robin?"

Erik, where was this? I feel a burning need to go tweak that moron. :)

FBI lenient on home invasion elephants!

People for The Ethical Treatment of Anti-Social Pachyderms has issued a strong statement defending the actions of their large, grey clients:
"If there were more midnight basketball courts for elephants, this wouldn't be happening" sez Chaircritter.

President Clinton "Feels pain" of elephants forced to commit crimes by social pressures!

Meanwhile, Attorney General Janet Reno states that the FBI lab, "Cannot postively establish that the homeowner was gored and trampled by an elephant."

"It could have been a muskrat", states Louis Freeh, "We just don't want to leap to any conclusions. We are interviewing local wildlife as I speak."

:D :D :D

Lawdog, too funny.

Coinneach, don't want to point fingers, but their headquartered at the "Sport Castle." :)

I understand. Thanks, Erik.

(now where did I put that lead-loaded Louisville Cluebat...)

Hmmmm, that's funny. I've got a Remington 700 in 300 Win. Mag, but I had no idea it would convert to a "Semi-auto assault rifle!"
Sounds like that smart a$$ needs to be lookin' for a new job tomorrow, he would fit right in workin' for HCI. ;)

Erik,

And to think that he's actually getting paid to spew that dribble and another customer probably believed it...
And bought it for all the wrong reasons...

Sounds like some kid, without a lick of common-sense, out to be everyone's friend, unable to consider people anything but abstractions from sociological models, and "knows just what to say" to get on someone's good side.

Makes you wanna spew, really.

ALARM! ALARM! CIVILIZATION IS IN PERIL! THE BARBARIANS HAVE TAKEN THE GATES!

Kinda like the lady I met in Wal-Mart the other day. When she rang up a box of 30-30 for me, she asked if it was for a handgun..... I asked her to find me one cause I'd love to try it out.

I thought I'd seen it all, until a 22WMR spun a bunny 2 1/4 times in the air!

Actually, Doc, the Thompson Center Contender used to be available in .30-30, and may still come in that caliber. A shooting buddy of mine has one. Loud!

As I too own a Remington 700 BDL (Sendero) in .300 Win Mag, I'm fascinated at just WHERE this SF novelist thought he could obtain for you a conversion kit. Erick, you shoulda called him on it:

"Order me one! Right now. The whole kit and kaboodle. What catalogue are you going to, by the way? No, really! I'm enthralled. Keep talking!"

:)

What could POSSIBLY have been this fool's motivation?

Well, you got more patience than I do. Sounds to me like either an anti-gun communist that is looking for trouble or an idiot that is insulting my intelligence. Either way, I would have probably blew a gasket right there on the spot. I have a very small tollerence for this kind of BS and both him and the manager would have been dressed down right there in public in front of God and everybody. The idiot for being an idiot and the manager for hiring this dolt in the first place.

Just wanted to mention I won't be posting on TFL for awhile ...

Just about finished on the patent for a pistol grip for a Rem 700 ... but, replacing that bolt with a semi-auto gas system is a little tricky ...

Mr. McMillan, can you help us out here? ;) ;)
