Yet another "Which 1911" question, or Springfield or Kimber- which and why

Why not go with a Colt XSE. I have the leightweight Commander model and love it. It was around $750. These have all your friend's needs. Custom fitting between slide and frame, undercut trigger guard for higher hand hold, serrations on both front and rear of slide, awesome trigger that has a adjustable stop, light weight (26 ounces), special hammer shape, 8 round magazine, beveled mag well, special grips and grip screws, plus much more. And besides it is a COLT, the orginal .45.

There are a couple of these on gunbroker.com. If he wants to save money, you can always e-mail the sellers for any deals they may want to make.

Good luck...

HOW IS THE WILSON COMBAT COMPARED TO KIMBER? I HAVE A CD 1911 AND I LIKE IT. IT HAS ALOT OF EXTRAS DONE TO IT AND I PLAN TO HAVE MORE IN THE FUTURE. IT IS JUST ABOUT MAXED OUT SO I NEED TO EXPLORE GETTING ANOTHER.

I THINK THE BIGGEST APPEAL OF THE 1911 IS THE VERSATALITY. YOU CAN GET ANYTHING YOU WANT FOR IT. IF YOU HAVE A LIMITED KNOWLEDGE AND LIMITED FUNDS ITS NOT FOR YOU. IT WILL NICKEL AND DIME YOU TO DEATH LIKE A CUSTOM CAR. I KNOW A FEW DIE HARD 1911 OWNERS, I AM NOT ONE OF THOSE. "VARIETY IS THE SPICE" I CALL IT A FUN GUN!

Chaim, let me throw my two cents in here.

Leave the money issue out of it, and buy the gun that you love. If you calculate the difference in price, divided by the lifespan of the gun, it's chump change. Look at it as an investment, both in quality, pride of ownership, and financially, since gun prices never go down.

Spending more money to get a higher level of craftsmanship is, IMO, always a good idea. A gun you aren't in love with, will leave you with a lifetime of regret that you didn't get the one you really wanted. A higher price paid is discomfort felt only once, but returned in satisfaction over the course of a lifetime, and given the fact that higher priced, better made items are heirloom quality, will also provide your children, and even grandchildren, with decades of defensive safety, fun, pride, and family nostalgia once you're gone.

Just a few thoughts. Money is transitory... quality is forever. My philosophy: 'Buy it once, buy it right.'

Here's what I decided on, I took the 'hit' and never looked back:

The Kimber logo is a flourish... but its not that bad. They look good:

But this two tone scheme is just wrong.
Now, this one below... that is the way a two tone gun should look.

The dark slide over a stainless frame is where its at.
This gun is an Ed Brown... but my Springfield looks just like it
(sorry the pic is so big)

KIMBER! I don't own any SA, but some of my friends do and we all agree the Kimber is more refined and has a better trigger. As for the warranty, Kimber replaced my 3 y.o barrel that I freely admitted to wearing out (tournaments) for NADA!

Colt...........:barf:
