The Traditions looks good for a novice/kid. Shorter and lighter are easier for them to use. I've seen small females try to hold up a smokepole and the short barrels are much better for them.

For myself, I'd take the Great Plains.

This is true and when we teach Hunter Safety, we do our best to accommodate everyone and it isn't always easy. On a few occasions, we literally have to help them at the line. That is why we chose a CVA BobCat and TC new Englander. Both in .50Cal. Then you have the big guys complaining about how light the rifles are.. ......
