XDs Recall

I would assume the XD-S sights are hard to move like the other XD series pistols.

Actually they aren't as bad as other XD pistols I've done in the past. I used a sight pusher to install night sights on my XD-S, and they were easy to do.

You can now see the progress of your pistol on Springfield's site.

Thanks for that info.

Mine arrived at SA 17 days ago, so I checked, expecting to see some progress. It shows the status as "received." Sounds to me like it's been on a shelf the past 2 -1/2 weeks. Ten days from now will mark a month since I shipped it off to them, with their estimate of one month turn-around. Let's see...

Everytime I enter my Serial number it just says mine isn't part of the recall, except I've already sent it in and has been there for weeks now.

My wife waited 3 months to get her XDs 9mm...

Had it for literally one day when this notice came out. She's understandably upset because she sold her perfectly good PPS to get it.

Last week mine said a shipping label was sent, days after the tracking from fedex showed it had been delivered, now it shoes the same as yours, that its not part of the recall.

Maybe its scanned in waiting to be repaired and they removed it from the list needing to be recalled.

I sold one last Thursday. Managed to get $520 for a 10 round old bi-tone .45. that was bought for $650 in the middle of the XDs craze. :( I made sure the buyer was fully informed about the recall. He text me saying he sent it off yesterday.

The delays increase

I just now got off the phone with a customer service rep from SA.

I asked about the location of my XDS .45 and was told that it was "one of the first" to come in to them for the fix. She then informed me that they have set the return date back for MY gun by 8 to 10 weeks. That is as of "from now". People who are currently sending them in are an estimated 12 weeks from seeing their gun returned.

Now, I cannot lie, I feel bad for the lady on the other end of the phone. I can only imagine how many angry people she's had to deal with lately but I sent my gun in and it was in their facility on Monday September 2nd. I get to wait yet another 8 to 10 weeks?? That is really unacceptable any way you look at it.

She said that the company has been overwhelmed by returns for repair/fix on this issue and that they have 2 shifts working on JUST this. They must have 2 guys per shift or something at this speed.....

Really not going to buy another Springfield firearm in the future now.

I'm sorry, how are they "Over Whelmed" They knew from teh get how many were involved in the recall. Lets see we are goign to get at least X amout of pistols back on this recall. DOH, what they though people would mostly ignore a recall on a Pistol, really?!? They have had mine for 3 weeks already, and your saying now Im looking at another 8 - 10 WEEKS?!? You are so right that us unacceptable!

How does any company prepare for a recall of this size? Do you expect them to have an area in the factory set aside "just in case"? Do they have people set up and trained for repairs that might never happen? There's a ton of work that goes into something like this. it sucks that a gun is gone that long, but there is no realistic solution.

Two Questions:
First, does anyone know what "call tag has been sent" means? That's what shows up when I put my SN in.
Second, what are their customer service hours? Every time I've called (before or after work) I've been put through to a message that says the voice mailbox is full (or not available, or something). It's not a huge deal, but I'd like to talk to a live person and verify that they got my gun, and get some sort of idea about when it'll be back.

I'm trying to be cool about this whole thing, and I don't really blame SA, but I don't have anything else that's nearly as nice to carry.

SA is now saying 8-12 weeks and it sounds like they have not even completely settled on a repair procedure let alone began working on all the guns that have already been sent to them. Pretty crappy.

Dear Springfield Customer,

We greatly appreciate the tremendous response to the 3.3 XD-S™ Recall Upgrade. We have received a
very large number of pistols in a very short time, and upgrades will be completed on a “first come / first served” basis.

The upgrade repair is in the final stage of testing, and should be determined soon. The XD-S™ pistols
already received at Springfield will be upgraded and returned as soon as possible, beginning within the
next few weeks. Given the volume of XD-S™ pistols now on hand, we expect it will take eight to ten
weeks to upgrade and return the current inventory to their owners. Pistols currently being returned to
Springfield for the upgrade, please allow approximately ten to twelve weeks turnaround time.

We are doing our best to increase the speed of the upgrade while maintaining a high level of safety and quality. As the upgrade process progresses, we are hopeful that the return time will become shorter.

We know it is inconvenient for you to be without your pistol, and we sincerely apologize. We assure you that we are working as fast as we can, and we know you will be very pleased with your upgraded 3.3
XD-S™. Thank you for your patience and loyalty. And remember; do not use your 3.3 XD-S™ until the upgrade has been performed.

Once your pistol has been upgraded and is shipping back to you, an e-mail confirmation and tracking information will be sent to you at the e-mail address you provided.

If you still have further questions please call 800-680-6866 or send your request again to recall@springfield-armory.com we appreciate your patience and support!

Sincerely,

Team Springfield

I will never buy a Springfield. They have severely tarnished their reputation too badly now. It's bad enough that they build so much of their product outside of the US for cheap labor, now their qc and customer service have suffered a death blow.

The perfect solution is to NOT make huge batches of dangerously defective pistols in Croatia (or the US when you talk about other manufacturers).

Sent mine in a few weeks ago. Looks like I'll get it back around Xmas. I've grown fond of my Sig938 in it's absense so the XDS is going on consignment once I get it back.
